Vehicle Detail
!940 Desoto Sportman 4 door sedan: In a strange twist of events I came across this very unusual car. We found it in a garage which had been boarded up since 1951. The original owner had purchased this car new in 1940, driving it for many years. He then developed a motor problem which he promptly put the car in his back yard garage according to his son. The motor and transmission was removed and the wheels taken off. My son and I purchased the contents of the old estate and were pleasantly suprised when we peeled the boards off the door and windows. Suprisingly the car has survived very well. Unfortantly time has gone by and nothing is beeing done about the car. It is time some one else has a chance. Let me desribe the car for you: Options...The Desoto is a mid-year introduction Sportsman, new to the line up that year. It wears the only color available in this model an amphibiane green upper with a garland green lower body. Bumper Wind Guards Master grill guard Rear Bumper Guards Radio Conventional running boards Heater and more Although the body metal is strong and in good condition the car sports some usage dings and dents. The only rust through I found was in the rear bumper cover and in the step metal in the lower portions of the door sills where the water ran off. Most likely a design flaw. We have another 40 Desoto with the same problem. I have crawled under the car and the floors look solid. I need to mention also some in the spare tire well. My pictures should show this in depth. The original hood ornament is in good shape as she is hard to find. Outside there are some dents which he had repaired but didn't have the finishing touch. (Front Left and Right rear.) The top of the car and the hood the paint is wearing thin. Glass looks to be okay except a small rock chip in the front window. No cracks. The upholstry is amazing. There is some wear, water marks and he sowed a seam in the upper front seat. Two of the door arm rests have separated; but overall looks great. Head liner has a couple of small tears but looks good. Glove box is missing its lock but it has the most intricate pattern on the outside in the wood graining. It is missing one crome piece on one fender and there is no chrome pieces on the running boards. We are looking for the correct 16 inch wheels but can't promise them as of yet. The wheels are mixed match. I will update on the progress. There is no motor, tramission, driveline and radiator. I do have a 40 two door sedan for sale which has the corect one and we could negociate a seprate deal if this is needed in this restoration project (so in your bidding please take this into consideration that they are not included but can be purchased seprately). Please understand that it is hard to describe a car which has 71 years of aging on it. Please ask questions. My phone is 509-218-1467. I am Dave. I can walk around the car and describe. Also you are welcome to visit this car. We want you pleased with your purchase. I can store the car outside for up to 6 months in a locked area. I may also be able to deliver with in a reasonable distance but we must talk before you bid. This is a really good restoration project that has taken the past and saved it for us today. We would like to have a 250.00 deposit with in 24 hours of the close of bidding. The balance to be paid with in 7 days. I accept Pay Pal for deposit and the balance in Check. Money Order, or Cask. Car can be released on payment clearing. Please note that although this car does not have a title it has all the required estate paper work required by most states for titling. This is an affidavit of inheritance from the Department of Licensing, State of Washington, Notorized and sealed by the County Clerk. Please check with your State prior to bidding to prevent complications after you bid. This is a proven process for titling and should prove smooth for transfer. Will be listing in the weeks to come a few other original cars in the collection, 53 Nash Rambler roll top convertible, 60 Mercedes Diesel with a roll top Wabasto roof. 48 Buick Roadmaster 4 door. 63 Grand Turismo with the Avanti Package including disc brakes and 4 speed on the floor. As with this one they will be priced to sell.
