Vehicle Detail
You are viewing a true survivor l972 Pontiac Trans Am. This vehicle retains all of its original drivetrain. I have checked and double checked the numbers and they all match. This includes the carb 7042273, motor code WD, 455 HO 7F6 heads , M22 4 speed, 12 bolt posi rear end. I have owned this car for about 20 years. I bought it from a gentleman in California. He had advertised the car in Hemmings Motor News. This is pre ebay, back when you really bought things in the dark. This car had spent its entire life in CA until I trailored it back to Mo for what I thought would be a frame off restoration. Well, the car has sat and sat and sat. I did start it up when I bought it and actually drove it down the street. It hasn't run since. The motor is not ceased up and is rebuildable. When I bought the car the original points distributor had been replaced with an HEI. I removed the HEI to use in a different motor. Luckily the guy I got the car from had kept the original points distributor (1112126) I think that is the correct unit. I have it and thought it was in the car but it is not so I will have to locate it. There is currently no distributor installed in the motor. The fuctional hood scoop and air clearer are complete and in good shape. The metal pan has minor surface rust only and will clean up as new. The paint has rubbed off of the top of the scoop but is not damaged. I may have the air compressor. I have several and don't remember which one came out of the car. It was in the trunk and I took it out for some reason. The interior is above average. The photos speak for themselves. The drivers seat will need the most work. The passenger bucket and rear seat are in very good conditon considering their age. The original carpet shows wear and the steering wheel will need replacing. The major rust is around the rear window and just behind the rear tires. I was told that CA cars will rust from the top not the bottom. The trunk pan will need replacing. The center section is the only rust. The corners and wheel wells are not rusted. This is an easy fix. The upper portion of the dash is cracked. The remainder of the dash is nice. The windshield got broke while sitting in my carport. I think misc car parts I have in the rafters above the car may have fallen on it. It wasn't cracked when I parked it under the carport. The car has a few dings and dents but nothing major. The rear plastic panel is cracked and can probably can be repaired. Also the front lower plastic air dam is not on the car I have it but it will need minor fixing. I have the rear window trim. I have tried to list all the flaws the car has but I may have missed something. This is a very nice restorable l972 completely original Trans Am. They made 1286 total so it is somewhat rare. Ask questions and I will try to respond in a timely manner. I have been traveling and am sometimes not available due to a lack of internet service. I have set a reasonable reserve and would consider a buy it now for a true offer. I do not wish to give the car away but do hope someone gets it and gives it the attention it deserves. It could may a great car. I would ask that if the reserve is met that the winning bidder contact me with 48 hours. I would request a 500.00 non refundable deposit within 48 hrs and the balance to be paid within 7 days. I would like the car to be removed within 30 days. I will assist in loading the vehicle. It can be picked up at my residence or I can meet a commercial transporter in Lebanon Mo for loading. I have a clear Mo titile in my name and will gladly sigh it over once the finances are paid. On Apr-04-11 at 17:27:13 PDT, seller added the following information: Today I verified the numbers on the motor for a potential buyer. I confirmed that the vin stamped on the block is in fact the original motor and matches the vin of the car. The 7F6 heads are date coded A021 & A051. The block is date coded L231. I also photographed the aforementioned information plus took photos of the carb numbers 7042273 and the underside of the functional hood scoop. If you desire photos please send me a request through the ebay messages and I will send the photos to you. Thanks.LarryOn Apr-06-11 at 07:13:14 PDT, seller added the following information: Folks, I stand corrected. A very knowledgeable pontiac guy has help me to correctly identify the rearend currently installed in the car. It is a l0 bolt posi and not a l2 bolt posi as I first posted in my description. It is stamped on the upper portion of the passenger side rear axle with the stamping: CM followed by 0054 1 E. I know that the CM represents 3.42 posi which would be correct for a 4 speed even though it has factory air conditioning. If you ordered the ta with an auto and air you would have gotten a 3.08 instead. My research also shows that 458 manual transmission and 828 automatic transmission trans am were built in 72. And of the 458 most of them probably did not have factory air conditioning. This really makes my car more rare than I thought. If you have further questions or concerns please let me know and I will gladly answer or inspect the info for you. Oh yes while under the car I noted that the rear floorboards appear to be in good shape and not rusted through. Thanks. Larry
