Vehicle Detail

The car is in Port Angeles, WA. I will drive up to a couple hundred miles to deliver to a serious buyer, and will help arrange shipping for a buyer farther away. Hello. I have to part with my beloved ’72 BMW 2002 tii. It’s black (painted over the original light green), 4 speed manual, with sunroof. It’s a great car that draws tons of compliments. It’s in good shape, but isn’t perfect. It can be used immediately and look pretty good, but in the right hands it could be easily converted into a show-worthy tii. [Note about mileage: The odo currently reads 1851. I know it turned over once, which means total mileage would be 101,851. When I bought it in 2001 the mileage was around 72,000. I have no idea if it had turned over before I bought it. So, basically, who knows what the actual total mileage is.] The good: It’s a California car (I bought it in San Diego in 2000) with very, very minor rust. As far as I know it’s never been in the snow or salt. The black paint looks pretty good from a slight distance and the body is solid. Only minor chips and dings. The interior was redone at some point and still looks great. The seats and beautiful Nardi steering wheel look almost new. The engine was rebuilt in ’95 and has less than 50,000 miles on the rebuild (estimated). The engine runs well and feels solid. Transmission works well too, shifts are nice and clean. The rear end was redone in the late ‘90s and is tight. All four tires are relatively new (a few years) with less than 4,000 miles on them. Newer Sony stereo with iPod hook-up. Older Boston Acoustics speakers. The car comes with a custom cover, several repair manuals, and a few other bonus items. In the 10+ years I’ve had it I’ve driven it less than 3000 miles a year. I’ve had it serviced by three very experienced and highly regarded 2002 mechanics and they were all impressed with the car’s overall condition. The not so good: If you get right up next to the car, you can see the chips, dings, and cracks in the paint. There is some rust in the rockers (in front of the rear wheel wells). This isn’t a major repair and is quite common (I’m told it’s caused by the poor drainage from the sunroof), which can be fixed). The carpets, headliner, and door panels look a little worn. The fan/vent system for the interior doesn’t work well. The fan blows fine, but the controls that direct the air and the temp don’t function well. It’s an awesome car and everyone seems to love it. Please feel free to contact me with questions or if you would like to see more pictures. Thanks. On Apr-05-11 at 21:38:53 PDT, seller added the following information: [Description has been edited, new info added at 9:30pm pacific time on April 5] [New, just discovered] There is a hole in the spare well. It doesn't get the trunk wet, but it can allow water to get into the spare well. Probably because of this, the spare well has some rust issues. I have pictures of the hole and the rust available. [New] The passenger side front seat belt does not retract/tighten well. Included with the car are some used replacement belts that came with the car when I bought it--I cannot vouch for them as they are used and I've never installed them. [New] If the car sits for too long it will smoke briefly (less than a minute, probably) after starting. It stops quickly and isn't a problem at all if the car is driven regularly. The car can also go from scheduled oil change to scheduled oil change without requiring any additional oil, so we're not talking about much here.On Apr-09-11 at 22:12:07 PDT, seller added the following information: [New] There is one crack in the dash right where the narrow part (passenger side) meets the thicker part (instrument cluster). I have pictures available on request. Otherwise the dash looks fantastic.
