Vehicle Detail
1969 Mercury Cougar Convertible First year Mercury made the Cougar convertible 351 Windsor, 2 barrel FMX Auto Trans 113,000 original miles Power Windows, Power Steering, Power Disc Brakes, Power Roof Clean interior. Seats and dash are in great condition for a car that is over 40 yrs old. I bought the car in May 2005 and am the 4th owner. The owner before me bought the car in 1997 from the second owner whom she was friends with. He purchased the car for his wife in 1972. The car had been painted a brighter yellow at some point before I bought it, so the color does not match perfectly with the original color. The convertible roof was replaced shortly before I purchased the car. Since owning it, I have done the following (all done by professional mechanics): -Replaced the alternator -Replaced Front and rear shocks -Replaced Lower control arms -Replaced Strut Rod Bushings and Sway Bar Bushing -Rebuilt the Radiator -Replaced carburetor with a rebuilt one -Replaced the hydraulics for the automatic roof -Replaced Carpet I also put new tires and rims on (I have the original rims), replaced the radio with an AM/FM cassette player (I have the original AM radio) and replaced the tire cover and trunk mat. The battery is brand new- just replaced on 3/31/11. The exhaust manifold has been cracked since I have owned the car, but I like the way it sounds so I never replaced it. The window motors can be slow when closing the windows. There had been a little body work done at the bottom of the rear quarter panels from a previous owner, but they are holding up fine. The vehicle was built 11/15/68 and there were only 5,796 Cougar Convertibles made that year (an additional 4,024 Convertible Deluxe were made as well). The vehicle was originally purchased in Englewood Colorado on 11/27/68- I have the original registered owners manual and volumes 1-4 of the 1969 Car Shop Manuals. All will go with the car along with a few framed magazine ads showcasing the 69 Cougar. I have only driven this car 5,000 miles in 6 years, but this has been an incredibly fun car to drive. I get a lot of head turns, honks and thumbs up from people as I come down the street. I hope that somebody else can enjoy this car as much as I have. Buyer assumes all responsibility to ship/pick up car. I will assist where I can to assure the car leaves my property safely. Please only serious bidders, a $500 deposit due immediately after auction ends and the balance due within 3 days in a cashier’s check or Bank Wire Transfer. PayPal will be accepted, but buyer assumes an additional 2.9% fee on top of final purchase price.
