Vehicle Detail
Mild custom Thing; wider rims and tires; some engine chrome. The chrome horns mounted on each side of the front bumper are not hooked up yet. I put them where they are just for experimental positioning. They can be placed anywhere the next owner wants. They looked good and were a good price, so I purchased. There is a 100 watt CD/radio in glove box area with two Sony rear spweakers and two Cannon speakers left and right, under the dash. Still works considering the previous owner just let it sit in the wind (a common sense owner spends the chump change to cover the whole car). Has new plug wires and tune up. Carburetor has a bit of a flat spot at kicking the gas and the choke is adjusted to a "rich" position. This means a carburetor rebuild should be done and a kit comes with it. The gas tank was taken out six months ago and cleaned. The present gas filter is clean and not showing any dirt. Fairly new muffler. There are some new front tie rod ends and shocks (some others in a spare parts box). Has a regular spare VW rim. Clutch and shifting is good. Part of the engine surround pans are missing. There are 14 inch tires in the front and 15 inch on the back. The pans are good. Rhino coated very good inside and the underside coating is peeling in places. No holes. There was some small rust on edges of the hood, passenger front fender edges and both corners of the windshield frame. All have been repaired with closley matching paint (the paint was mixed/matched by Sherwin Williams and will be included with the Thing). Seats are excellent; no holes/tares. The doors have no rust and black carpet is glued in each one. Brake lights and headlights work; so far no directionals or high beam or wipers. I took the steering wheel off, inspected the directional and wiper switch mechanisms. They were ok. I cleaned and greased the pivot slides and reassembled. There are no shorts or battery drain at this writing. Just takes time and analytical wiring diagram tracking to work. The original wiring is in pretty good shape. The top metal frame lifts off with eight allen bolts loosened leaving the back wrap around bars or, all can be removed (bimini vinyl stays on frame). A surfer put his board(s) on the back upper bar and supported the front of the board with a hang down bracket hanging from the upper middle top tubes. With the windshield down, you could put a long big surf board. Enjoy your bidding. On Mar-17-11 at 07:40:33 PDT, seller added the following information: NOTE: Please read question/answer section. If you (green Thing buyer) prefers a soft fold down frame and vinyl top instead of the Acapulco blue/white top as pictured and with sale of Thing, let me know. I can take $500 off the final bid sale price and the Thing will arrive to you without the top. Or, I know a Thing owner (lives in Orlando, FL) has one and will trade it out. The decision would have to be made before you (buyer) has Thing delivered. Tops would be switched out here. A picture can be sent with "other" top installed. Easier to just take the $500 off the price if you know where to get the fold down top and want to buy a new vinyl. Or you will never need a top (many Thingers don't).
