Vehicle Detail
Hi there and thanks for looking! Please note that you can view extra large pictures here - the included, smaller pictures below are just a few of the nearly 100 pictures I have hosted at this link : Large Photos Also, you may email me for a CarFax report link if you wish. I had it linked here but apparently they have changed their policy and the link expires within minutes. This E46 M3 is nearly perfect with tasteful modifications. It has a documented history, low miles and is in excellent condition. I say "nearly perfect" because no used car really can be -perfect-. Every used car will have a blemish (or three) of some type and anyone selling a used car as perfect is simply hoping that you won't notice until after your purchase. I will detail the very small flaws this car has in photos and in description below. This is one of the last E46 M3 coupes ever built. I am uncertain if just how near the end of the line this one is, but I do know it was built in the last week of the last month that they built E46 M3s (05 of 06). This is, in my opinion and having owned one of nearly every M car produced over the years, one of the last of the greatest M cars BMW ever made. Depending on your viewpoint, this is the last of the great inline six powerplant and is already regarded as the pinnacle of what BMW could do with this I6 architecture. The S54 remained largely unchanged over the course of it's run. I own this car outright and have the title in-hand. The factory details of this car are as follows : 2006 E46 M3 with 34,062 miles at the time of this writingSMG transmissionSilver Gray MetallicBlack leatherPremium package (power seats, moonroof, Bluetooth/BMW assist)Cold weather package (heated seats, ski bag, headlight washers)Xenon headlightsHarmon-Kardon audioHomelink (garage door openers) It has the following modifications : Tinted windows Matte black hood grille surrounds, side gills, and rear M3 badge BMW ipod connector (located in glovebox)BMW ZCP 19" wheels with Michelin PS2 tires (these are real BMW ZCP wheels, not knockoffs) Turner Motorsport wheel spacers (15mm front, 10mm rear)BMW ZCP complete big brake kit (rotors, calipers, carriers, pads, SS lines)Eibach Pro-Kit springs + Koni "yellows" set to full soft (the perfect street combination in terms of stance and street comfort - much more street compliant than factory)BMW Motorsport 4.10 differential (brand new differential professionally built by Diffsonline using BMW M polished gears and factory LSD)Supersprint V2 stepped headers (widely regarded as the best header on the market for this car)CPI CRT400 section 1 (this exhaust section keeps the car legal by retaining catalytic converters that the SS headers eliminate)ESS Euro flash (to maximize gains from the headers)ESS SMG software (emulates the Euro CSL SMG functions in higher settings - much improved shifting all around) CSL type rear diffuser (this is a replica piece that is surprisingly nice - the fit is not perfect, nor is the color match but it is very close - PLEASE NOTE : OEM diffuser is PERFECT and included) Intake scoops (I'm unsure of the brand (RPI?) - they were on the car when I purchased it - I have no empirical data to support a performance increase but they don't seem to hurt) (Factory exhaust parts are included in the sale. Factory springs, shocks, brakes and differential are not) The 4.10 differential, the ZCP brake kit, suspension, headers/ESS flash all have just 1500 miles since they were installed. I made these modifications over the course of the month in December and they have made an otherwise great car stellar. The car is now more comfortable, significantly faster without being louder or noticeably thirstier. The new differential WAS broken in properly (1200 miles gently - painful but necessary!) and it is filled with the BMW OEM diff fluid (liquid gold based on their asking price) with the special friction modifiers. Note that this was a complete diff, not a gear job - in other words, it was done correctly! This is the 4th BMW M car I've owned with the S54 power plant. It really is an amazing engine and I'm very familiar with this platform having put a combined 30K+ miles on an '02 M Coupe, an '06 Z4 M Coupe, an '03 M3 and this '06 M3. As such, I've learned what these cars need and what constitutes an E46 M3 with an up to date, clean bill of health. I can say with certainty that this car IS up to date. The following is the routine maintenance I have completed in the past 6 months - this maintenance is easily $2000 worth of free "stuff" you won't have to worry about. The next service this car requires is an oil/filter change in the next 6 months. Inspection II is on track to occur in 10,500 miles (around 43K on the clock). Other than premium fuel, you won't need to shell out anything to enjoy this car right away and for the next long while. Oil + filter changes every 3,000 miles that I've owned it using only BMW Castrol 10w60 as prescribed and OEM filtersTransmission fluid flushed and refilledPower Steering fluid flushed and refilledSMG fluid (Pentosin CHF11s) flushed and refilledBrake fluid complete flush and refill at the time of the ZCP brake kit installationNew OEM "RTAB" with Turner limiters (rear trailing arm bushings, which are known to fail prematurely - Turner limiters help combat wear while improving handling with no comfort sacrifice) Fresh intake filter (OEM) + brand new MAF, airbox cleanedNew OEM BMW batteryNew OEM fuel filterNew OEM cabin microfilterNew wiper blades (Bosch)Coolant system flushed, refilled (OEM coolant) and bledNew OEM accessory belts (both engine and AC - both replaced 3,500 miles ago)Spark plugs and coils replaced (NGK plugs + OEM BMW updated coils)VANOS filter replacedNew BMW OEM front and rear swaybar bushings and brackets/boltsNew spring pads front and rearNew CPV (constant pressure valve - was not leaking but replaced preventatively when headers were replaced - otherwise this is an 8 hour, $1K+ job to replace - you do it if the headers are off to save this future cost) Differential fluid is the OEM fluid for this machine and is fresh (less than 1500 miles) The car has had zero mechanical issues or codes in the time I've owned it (and my records from previous owners that I do have indicate that it has never had any mechanical issues). I am the third owner of this machine and have the cars history as provided to me by the dealer I purchased it from (Perillo BMW in Chicago). It had the 1200 mile inspection performed ON TIME back in 2006 (very important) as well as Inspection 1 in the prescribed mileage range. The ZCP wheels and Michelin PS2s were mounted at the same time last year. The tires are sized 245/35 19 front and 275/30 19 rear. This setup is grippy as heck and comfy on the street (plus it doesn't look bad to boot). The tires are all but new with just 3,000 miles on them. Alignment is spot on and tire wear reflects this fact. Mechanically, this car is a 10 of 10. I am extremely mechanically sensitive - that is to say that any little thing that isn't right with any machine will bother me until it IS made right. This car burns no oil, has zero leaks of any kind and needs nothing performed. It is properly sorted out. The glass is perfect - 9 of 10. The glass itself all around is perfect, but there is one flaw here on the car in regards to the tint - it is something I've been unable to fix. The read window tint does not sit flush on the "dots" along the top of the rear window. It was this way when I purchased the car and I've had it redone with the same exact result. Apparently this can be "fixed" with a solid black vinyl panel along the top but I never liked the look of this on other cars. The interior is a 9 out of 10. I honestly thought the interior leather had been redone when I purchased the car - it is that nice for the year and miles. The driver seat shows a little wear (as shown in photos). The passenger seat, rear seats and everything else look new. The paint is a 9 out of 10. It has three tiny nicks I have pinpointed in the photos. Two are on the passenger side, the third is on the rear leading edge of the trunk shut line. They are tiny and only visible upon close inspection. The bumpers and hood look brand new with no pits or rash. This car has been driven but pampered. The wheels have minor nicks that I can't seem to pay any tire place any amount of money to avoid inflicting when mounting and balancing tires (grrr). They are tiny and don't appear in the photos (they are that small). The ESS SMG flash has helped smooth things out, but to be perfectly honest, I am simply not a huge fan of this system. I do not track this car (it is driven hard from time to time once warmed on the street but I do not track) and I believe I would be much happier with this transmission if I was a track rat. I'm old fashioned in this regard - the system truly is technically amazing once you understand the nuances of it and, with time, you can get wonderfully smooth with it. Which brings me to why this car is for sale - my previous car was a Boxster S and I miss it. I never fancied myself a roadster type of driver but I've come to realize that I am. Also, I miss having a proper manual transmission. If not for these two desires I would hang on to this car and let it become the classic it is intended to become (especially in this condition, with these miles and possibly most importantly with this being one of the very last built in that last week of E46 M3 production). For what it's worth, I would consider a Boxster S trade (986 or 987). The pictures were just taken and show the car as she sits now. They were taken Saturday, March 12th and I have put 30 miles on it since then. I feel compelled to point out that you may be disappointed if you believe you will purchase this car for a bargain. It is a rare machine in top condition - it is somewhat rare given the build date and options. I'm in no particular rush and I'm interested to see what the market will bear for this car in this shape. There are plenty of higher mile examples out there that are outright steals, and if your first priority is budget, this may be your better bet. If you're looking for one of the cleanest and nicest E46 M3s anywhere in the country however, this may be the car you're looking for. Feel free to ask any questions - please be aware that any emails asking for the reserve price or making a low cash offer will probably be ignored. Also, if you send me an email that resembles a txt sent by a distracted teen, don't expect anything in return. Introduce yourself - get to know me and the car. I understand this cars market very well, which means I realize how few still exist in this condition. Thanks for looking and reading!
