Over 35 Pictures and 3 Videos of this car - Just scroll down! 1985 Mercedes 300CD - A beautiful, rust-free, running and driving car with a few minor-ish ailments. PLEASE NOTE - This is an ABSOLUTE AUCTION with NO RESERVE. I have done this in the past, and I find that the law of supply and demand takes over and USUALLY the right price is met. I sincerely hope it will be in this case, because I am moving and regrettably, must sell this car. I can hope that I get back what I have in this car, and even though it is listed with a $99 starting price, I expect this car to bring the proper value. I'm not one to play games and try to force a value on you with my starting price. Traditionally, cars like this bring in the $4k - $8k area for a decent example. I once sold one for $8500 that was exceptionally nice. Either way, I'm fairly certain she will bring the right value on eBay, and I am a seller - I need to move overseas, so top bidder takes it. No games. Hello eBayers, I know there is a lot of writing and info here, but please take the time to read it. I have always given an in-depth description of the cars I sell on eBay. I find that buyer appreciate this. If there is something I haven't covered, please let me know and contact me. Hello there, eBayers! As you probably know (Since you are viewing this auction), this is a rare vehicle. I believe this to be the last year for this body style, and the fact that it is a coupe makes it even more desirable in my opinion. This vehicle was purchased as a car I wanted to fix up thoroughly, but recent developments require me to move overseas and I must sell my babies. This car has the serious potential to be quite a gem - it is definitely a great starting point. All major components seem and act great, but there are some ailments that will need attention before you can get the most use out of this car. This is the last of my beloved vehicular possessions that I need to sell. I love oddball 60s 70s and 80s cars. I have sold several of my cars through eBay, getting ready to move, all with positive feedback. These include several Mercedes 300 Diesels, a VW Westfalia, a v12 Jaguar convertible, a Datsun Fairlady Roadster, a Volvo 262 Bertone, and some others. You can be certain you are getting all the info that I have on the car you are bidding on, and I disclose everything to the best of my knowledge. The good, the neutral, the things that may need help, the history, it is all here, nothing is being hidden or not disclosed. If there is something that you would like to know, please call me at (512) 588-3492 or send me an email. You may get a quicker response by calling me. I would like to mention, please do not bid on this item if you are not wanting to follow through. As you may know, eBay ads cost money, $120 to be exact, and I do need to sell this car in a timely manner for my move. She is worth every penny, and has a remarkable history. The "first" buyer for the last car I sold here, a 1979 Mercedes 280se, kept making excuses as to why he could not pay the deposit, and eventually flaked out. The second buyer stepped in and bought it, was happy and left positive feedback, but guys, please, do not waste my time or your time. The car is listed to the best of my knowledge and experience in ownership, and honesty is key for me. Please rest assured the car is a nice example of the last year of the 300CD and I'm confident you will be happy. Please follow through on your purchase, As stated before, I must move and selling this car must be done in a timely manner. The cut and dry: This car is rust-free, starts up, runs well, and drives and shifts all the gears, and there are no leaks, but please read on before you bid. I purchased this vehicle from a specialty auction benefitting a charity. I was terribly excited to pick this car up, but now I need to sell her, and due to my near future move, I don't have the time to tend to the things it needs. This car has a clean, blue, Texas title. It is in no way "salvage" or "rescued". Again, it is a CLEAN, BLUE, Texas title. I have only had a week of spare time to tend to the car, so I haven't really done much with her. My move came as a good surprise, so I need to follow through. Following is a list of the good things and the things that need attention: This car has these things going for it: 1. Paint is quite nice, and although not original, it is still very fresh and shiny. The body is straight, and to me, there is not any evidence of any accidents. 2. Body is straight, no dings or dents to talk about. 3. Engine starts up just fine every time, and the turbocharger supplies boost. 4. Engine runs quite cool, typically they like to run warm, but this one stays right around the middle degree mark or less. See pictures. 5. Transmission shifts though all the gears. 6. Brakes are good. 7. Pretty clean car and can really shine with a nice cleanup. 8. The seats are still nice and springy, and the rear seats are in considerably great shape, as I've seen 300CD cars with failing rear upholstery. Not this one. 9. Signals, lights, all safety equipment is working properly. This car needs the following in my opinion and from my experience: 1. Rear windows do not go up or down, may be a switch issue? 2. Sunroof will not open, again, I believe it is related to the switch. 3. The A/C control panel will not function, I cannot get the fan to come on. Again, could be a general fault, like a fuse or something? 4. Vehicle needs an alignment, it pulls to the right. Not violently, but she needs to be held in the correct position while driving. 5. Transmission mount or motor mounts need help, it has the classic "broken mount" kick between gears. I do NOT believe that the transmission is to blame. 6. Engine diesels on, it will not shut off with the key switch. You will need to open the hood and press the "stop" lever 7. The odometer does not work 8. Passenger outside door handle is separated from the body, but still works. See picture. 9. Grille gets stuck on the metal strip under the driver's side headlight when closing hood. Needs assistance when closing, nothing major. Interior: Nice for it's year and age. The pictures show the car quite accurately. The interior still has plenty of life left, and is not "worn out", thoguh the driver's seat has a wear spot (see picture). I'd give it a 7.5 or 8 out of 10, mostly because of the spot on the headliner, wear spot on the driver's seat and the few cracks on dash (again, see pictures). Engine/Drivetrain: This car starts up first time every time, no smoke (other than the tiny bit expected for a diesel), does not burn oil, temperature gauge always stays where it should or lower, the oil pressure is well within range. It revs and idles smoothly. I don't see any issues with the motor. There are no leaks. Exterior/Undercarriage: I give it a 9. Paint and body is nice. Perhaps a little nicer than the pictures show, in fact. THIS CAR IS RUST-FREE. This is one major reason why I bought it in the first place. In fact, only the exhaust shows surface rust, which is expected anyway. A car MUST be rust free for me to buy it. I wouldn't even look at a car that wasn't. A solid, healthy body and frame for a worthwhile car. A/C and Climate: There is no freon in the system. Possibly a leak, possibly more. I haven't investigated fully. Other: This is a nice car that needs a little "this and that". Definitely a nice candidate for a light restoration. Please don't expect a perfect car, but expect one that is a great springboard to a wonderful 300CD. Title, stickers, tags: The title is a good, blue title, IN MY NAME, and ready to be transfered to you. This car has been insured, but has not been registered or inspected. There was no need to. This car can also easily pass inspection, and in Texas, there is no emissions check required for this car, as it is over 25 years old and a diesel. I will require a $300 cash deposit, sent to paypal, within 12 hours of auction close, and the remainder within 3 days, in cash, or a cashier's check that I can clear at a local bank on the day of pickup. If you need other arrangements, please contact me first. Please honor your bid, I have put a lot of time into this ad, and for someone to just back out is very unfair. Please let me know your intentions if you have zero feedback, or I may cancel your bids. I'm sorry, I've just had bad experiences in the past with bidders with zero or negative feedback. One of you guys are bound to ask something like: "Can I drive this car straight to California or New York??" - Well, let me say it like this: Just because one may be able to make it, they should not neccessarily do so. Though I have driven this car a good 30 or 40 miles, I have not taken long trips. I'm not saying she won't take it, I'm just saying that you should really consider that this is a "classic", and as I stated, she does need some help. please consider using a transport company for delivery. To date, every car I have sold on eBay, including a 1975 Peugeot 504 DIESEL that was driven to CANADA from Texas (I know, right?), has made it to its destination just fine if the new owner decided to drive it, but of course, I cannot guarantee anything to you. I hope it makes sense and you understand. I personally would not take the chance until I have built better rapport with the car. Again, that's not to say it cannot or will not do it. It is just wise, I believe, to tend to its ailments first. You can contact me at (512) 588-3492. Pictures: Please click to enlarge. These are hosted on Photobucket.
