UP FOR AUCTION IS A VERY NICE 1998 BMW 540I WITH A 6 SPEED MANUAL. THIS WAS A 1 OWNER CALIFORNA CAR WHEN I BOUGHT IT LAST YEAR. IT HAS NEVER SEEN WINTER SO IT'S COMPLETELY RUST FREE. VERY CLEAN INSIDE AND OUT. I'VE INVESTED ABOUT $10K INTO THIS CAR SINCE I BOUGHT IT, AND I'M ONLY SELLING BECAUSE I HAD A 2004 545I THAT CAME UP THAT I WANT INSTEAD. I HAD THE ENGINE REBUILT LAST FALL INCLUDING THE HEADS AND GASKET. WE PULLED THE ENGINE OUT AND COMPLETELY REBUILT THE ENGINE (COMES WITH A 1 YEAR/ 10,000 WARRANTY FROM THE ENGING DOCTOR) THERE WAS ALSO AN ISSUE WITH 1ST AND 2ND GEAR. I FOUND A GREAT 29K TRANNY AND PUT THAT IN WHILE INSTALLING A BRAND NEW CLUTCH AT THE SAME TIME. SO THE CAR RUNS GREAT, DOESN'T BURN OIL, AND IT SHIFTS BEAUTIFULLY. LASTLY I HAD NEW HOSES INSTALLED INCLUDING THE POWER STEERING HOSES. FULL SIZED SPARE IN TRUCK LOOKS GOOD. ALL THE TOOLS ARE THERE AS WELL ALONG WITH A FRESH BATTERY. ISSUES: TIRES AND WHEELS ARE IN DECENT SHAPE WITH ONLY MINOR CURB RASH--THE RIGHT REAR TIRE DOES HAVE A REALLY SLOW LEAK IN IT THAT I HAVE NOT HAD FIXED. ALSO THE PASSENGER DOOR LOCK AND WINDOW IS NOT FUNCTIONING--COULD BE THE DOOR MODULATOR, BUT NOT SURE. RADIO, TAPE, AND CD WORKS WELL, BUT ONE OF THE REAR SPEAKERS HAS AN ISSUE THAT I HAVE NOT TAKEN CARE OF. PIXALS WHERE THE ODO ARE OK....LITTLE FADING ON THE RIGHT HAND SIDE--BUT PRETTY TYPICAL OF THESE CARS. ALSO THE HEAT BUTTONS ARE MISSING ON THE A/C/HEATER CONTROLS. THIS IS A NICE EXAMPLE OF THE CLASSIC E39 SERIES 540I. PULLS VERY STRONG AND THE INTERIOR IS IN REALLY NICE SHAPE. GREAT BUY ON A GREAT E39.
