Vehicle Detail

1960 Ford Thunderbird Sunroof, J-Code Car! Very rare Golde edition which features the first factory sunroof cars produced in Detroit. Only approximately 2600 of these cars were produced. This car is a J-Code car which indicates it features a MEL 430 cu in V-8. (Mercury, Edsel, Lincoln) Automotive Mileposts believes that of the 2600 sunroof cars produced only 250 had the 430 CID engine installed. According to Barrett Jackson files only 40 are registered world wide. This is also a rare factory leather car featuring power windows and power seats. I believe I am the third or 4th owner of this car. This car came from dry, Central Oregon and was owned by a Deschutes County sheriff. Not clear if he bought it new or used. His family then sold the car to a Square Bird collector in Portland some 10-12 years ago. He repainted the car a color very close to the original white from the factory. The car sat for 9 of those years with most of the exterior trim removed before the car was repainted. This owner past away and the family had the trim put back on the car and made it road worthy again two years ago. The car shows just under 66,000 miles and those are believed to be the correct miles. I have no documentation to support the mileage. The exterior is fairly straight with front bumper in excellent shape while the rear should be re-plated. The interior is original showing its age a little bit. The head liner is in fair shape but not real bad. I can send photos of the headliner. Over all this is a nice quality driver car not a show car. The two things I would do are to replace the headliner and re-chrome the back bumper. The car has very good paint and body. The door panels are good but down the road you would want to replace them and window felts. Again this car looks very good just the way it is and draws a lot of attention. It is a very rare combination with the J-code 430, the Golde edition sunroof and factory leather. It also has power windows and seats. Right rear window motor is not functioning at this time. It drives 70 mph fine and stops very good with power brakes and steering.. The transmission does have a leak that I have not looked in to yet. Not a perfect car, but a rare collectible Thunderbird!! Vehicle identification number is OY71J145778. The car has a new set of Coker 14 inch tires all around. The only thing that does not look stock on this car is a set of headers and a couple of other components under the hood. The right rear window motor needs to be replaced. There are a couple of bubbles in the paint on the roof and one quarter panel. These look like paint preparation issues. No signs of any serious rust. This is an extremely nice, high quality driver that can be shown just like it is and always draws a crowd! Runs good and drives like a 1960’s car with bias ply tires does! This is a very nice, rare collector car that should go to that Thunderbird or 1960’s car collection!
