Vehicle Detail

Note: any wet sediments in bottom pan pictures is brake fluid before the main brake line was replaced(read new parts description below). This car is for the VW collector that knows values (NADA low retail-over $7000) and what well preserved, rust free means. This is an excellent restoration candidate or easy made proud driver/starter. It will need a top, hubcaps, Interior replaced or put on covers (the original seats are functional) and maybe paint sometime. This was stored in Atlanta and that is where I purchased it. Looks to have been purchased there new: "Bill Spreen Volkswagen" is on engine lid and license plate frame. ORIGINAL stuff: Although much of the original materials will be replaced in a restoration the following items contest to its preservation through 48 years of rolling. Still has much if the old sound deadening material, carpet, rubber mats, Wolfsburg radio (works!), 6 volt system (you'd never know it the way it starts!), all good glass except windshield (big BB spot in center), rear top glass window and metal rim, excellent top frame (goes up and down easily), trim, 1200 engine (actually has the oil bath breather), rims, door panels/interior panels (these still could be used if "time capsule show piece" is driver goal), window washer tank/lines, trunk cardboard inserts/liners, running boards, hood/trunk lids/doors, heater ducts under rear seat, front duct slider/channels still solid & slide, and so on. You get the picture. Even the top, headliner, padding was original but old/removed of course. I do still have the header wood piece and padding "hair" in a bag. Sunvisors are good/usable. Running condition: Believe it or not, runs like NEW. I am not kidding. Gas tank was bone dry and I could see NO rust in it (I placed two transparent gas filters in line just for visual debri sighting; so far nothing/filters still clean after several hours of running around). Clutch has no slippage; gears excellent shifting. Just an absolute vintage feel at a dependable/no worries fun condition. Gas guage works also! All lights work, even directionals. I still have to verify the brake lights. Windshield wipers work! NEWLY INSTALLED: master cylinder, brake switch, brake line from front to back junction. It looks like the brakes were all done shortly before they put it into storage. All the other lines were new looking and the bleeders came loose easily. The wheel cylinders, shoes also looked new. I had to put new springs/retainers on the left front brake assembly which leaves a set for the right side if needed. Four new tires will be installed and a fifth for a spare. There is no spare rim. Also, new 6 volt battery, coil, condensor, rotor, plugs, cap, wires, and gas hose/filters. The car is rust free for the most part. The only rust is the square area of the battery base and a new VW replacement pan comes with car for weld in (see the last picture). This is just placed under the battery for now. Any rust seen is surface peel. Pan is amazing considering its age. Any wetness is brake fluid that leaked when I discovered the bad line which was replaced as mentioned. Other than 48 years of dings, scratches and the rust on the bumpers, it is accident free/major dent free. Trim is excellent and has the Wolfsburg hood ornament. Bumpers and exact seat kits can be purchased through Mid America VW or Vee Dub Parts. Call 904-260-6529 for info, not negotiation/offering. On Feb-16-11 at 15:53:38 PST, seller added the following information: The frame rails/jack points are rock solid and a jack/lift can be placed at any point on them (for those of you not knowing VW convertibles, this is what keeps the car stable; no sag). This means the doors DO NOT drop, scrape, sag, resist even flush closing. Doors close nice, easy, true, firm and correct. The roll up windows work easy also (this includes quarter/back roll ups). Wing windows open, close, clamp good. I was just informed by an expert(?) that my price is low for a running, well preserved example like this. It will remain listed at this pricing for now. On Feb-16-11 at 16:41:43 PST, seller added the following information: More notes: high beam button works; headlight cover glass still there. Top frame has good working latches and chrome is good. Top still has the old grab straps (use: cornering, getting into back seat?). This is a $15,000 car when restored. On Feb-16-11 at 18:09:52 PST, seller added the following information: A 1979 VW Pop-top camper will be listed next week. Factory A/C (not working but all parts there including underdash and compressor)! Good canvas in Straight up lift pop top; child bunk board; sink; gas stove; frig; drawer cabinate and hinge door cabinates; curtains, screens, two working ceiling lights, and of course seat/bed/zipper pillows. Nice front original square weave vinyl seats. Minimal rust. On Feb-16-11 at 18:16:44 PST, seller added the following information: 1962 VW-Did you have to ask: horn works, of course. Complete replacement bumpers for this bug are about $300 from Mid America VW parts supplier. On Feb-16-11 at 18:18:39 PST, seller added the following information: There is NO rust bubbling not even on bottom of door skins, or bottom at scuff areas or insides. On Feb-16-11 at 18:27:59 PST, seller added the following information: Several people called so I keep adding answers/info. As far as engine, clutch, brakes, this car will drive anywhere. I cannot predict front and rear suspension conditions. Driven reasonably, it can be driven home with little worry an hour or two from its location. I always recommend transporting so a buyer's home base evaluation and vehicle familiarization can be done. Forty Eight years old and mechanically, it seems like only five years old. Incredible. I wish I could keep it, but wife wants Paris sometime in the next two years. On Feb-18-11 at 04:37:34 PST, seller added the following information: Please note: I have been offered at least $5000 by a local area resident. He looked it over closely, knows VW's better than most, and test drove/picked it apart for its uniqueness. Final evaluation : pristine absolute unmolested original and mechanically preserved/useful; no faults except needing top cost input. On Feb-18-11 at 14:21:11 PST, seller added the following information: The only difference between this and the last 62 convertible I saw on Ebay was that one still had its old vinyl top, and its top didn't look long for use. That was bid over $7,000. I see there is a new 1962 Bug listing, restored one @ $13k. On Feb-22-11 at 04:10:40 PST, seller added the following information: The price will not be reduced any further. I keep forgetting I don't need to sell. My agenda sometimes nudges the protocol, but if the selling item is a good one, no hurry. This will be re-listed at the original higher amount and with all foreign selling locations chosen. If you're going to restore one this is it. If you're wanting just to paint, tweak and drive this is it. If you need immediate perfection, this is almost it, but maybe not the one. If you want a project price buy, this is not it. I take that back, this is at a project price as it is now, with an immediate driver status. Wait if you must.
