Vehicle Detail
THIS IS A NO RESERVE AUCTION!! This auction is for a VERY RARE 1971 Pontiac Trans Am 455 HO PROJECT CAR. This car was originally equipped with the 455 HO motor and 4 speed transmission. There were only 885 455 HO 4 speed cars built in 1971, according to production numbers. This car is partially disassembled, and needs a full restoration. Car was originally white with the blue stripes, and a blue interior. See picture of the VIN plate. This car could be restored, or would make a great resto-mod project! This car was a recent garage find, with little known history. In brief, from what we can tell, the car received a custom black paint job with custom stripes, likely back in the 1980's, based on the style of the stripes, and had both right & left rear 1/4 panels and tail lamp panel replaced, likely at the time of this custom paint job. The paint is now pretty rough. The replacement rear 1/4 panels are in good condition, with no apparent rust, but the body filler over the welds at the top of the C-pillar is lifting on both sides. See picture. The trunk pan is rusty, and will need to be replaced. The rear frame rails are rusty up & over the rear axle area, and would need to be replaced. The right & left front floor pans are rusty, and would need to be replaced. The remainder of the floor pan and the inner & outer rocker/sill panels appear to be solid. All of these panels/rails are readily available in reproduction. The front subframe appears straight, and to be in good condition. The RIGHT front fender is excellent, the LEFT front fender is very good with a small amount of rust thru in the lower corner. Both have the "stamped" side scoop holes. The inner front fender aprons are good, and the lower front valence panel is excellent. The urethane front nose assembly is very nice with the typical crazed paint, with no apparent damage. The hood is excellent, with the "stamped" air scoop hole. The radiator core support panel is excellent with the what appears to be the original identification sticker intact. See pictures. The front clip had been removed years ago, but most of the parts appear to be there, with no apparent damage. The trunk lid and doors appear to be very nice. Original front & rear spoilers are intact, but will need some work. We have 3 of 4 wheel arch spats/spoilers. The front grille inserts are good. The rear tail lamps are decent, but would need re-chroming. The rear bumper is very straight, but would need re-chroming. Most of the other trim parts appear to be intact. The interior is mostly complete and original, but needs a full restoration. This interior appears mostly stock, and has not been cut up or modified. The dash pad very nice, is NOT cracked, and has minimal warpage along the forward facing edge. All gauges are intact. The door panels are decent. We were able to locate the engine block that was in the car, at a machine shop, and were told that it had been there for at least 15++ years! Unfortunately, this block has two apparent water jacket CRACKS, and it is NOT the correct numbers matching block. It is however, an early HO 4-bolt main block, likely out of a GTO. This engine was disassembled years ago, but we have a large tub full of parts. The cylinder heads are correct HO heads, and we have what we assume is the correct crankshaft. We do NOT have the pistons or rods. We have a period correct original 4 speed transmission and flywheel. Known MISSING parts, NOT available with the car, are as follows, so please read carefully!!!! air cleaner & hood scoop shifter & center console bellhousing original steering wheel original wheels intake manifold & carb (carb pictured is a Chevy Quadrajet #7028212 DH) exhaust manifolds rods & pistons there are likely more parts missing, as this is a project car, but these are the main parts that are NOT available with the car. THIS CAR IS A PROJECT CAR, NEEDING A FULL RESTORATION, AND WILL BE SOLD AS IS. LOCAL PICK UP IS NO PROBLEM AT ALL. WE ARE WILLING TO HELP LOAD THE CAR WITHIN REASON. CAR IS STORED IN A WAREHOUSE WITH THE POTENTIAL FOR LOADING ON A CAR TRAILER INSIDE. THERE IS PLENTY OF OUTSIDE STREET & PARKING AREA SPACE FOR A BIG RIG HAULER. WHEN CAR IS PAID IN FULL, CAR CAN BE STORED FOR AN ADDITIONAL 2 WEEKS AFTER PAYMENT HAS BEEN MADE, AT NO CHARGE TO THE BUYER. AFTER 2 WEEKS, THERE WILL BE A DAILY STORAGE FEE OF $20 PER DAY. TO ALL BIDDERS - PLEASE DO ALL OF YOUR OWN RESEARCH ON SHIPPING THIS VEHICLE. ALL SHIPPING AND SHIPPING COSTS ARE THE FULL RESPONSIBILITY OF THE BUYER!
