Vehicle Detail

1993 BMW 850Ci The good: Mechanically this car is doing great. It has been a reliable daily driver for me for almost seven years and 50,000 miles. It's taken me from Charleston to San Diego and back, up to Newport Rhode Island (parked all winter - no salty snowy driving), and out to Seattle. The car is powerful, smooth, and quiet (aside from the custom exhaust which is nice and throaty!). There were no maintenance records available when I bought the car but the mechanic who had worked on it said it was a great car that just needed to be driven more. I obliged! The car runs well, drives straight, and does not experience any speed related shudder (the control arm bushings are good and the wheels have proper sized metal hubcentric rings installed). Wheels are aftermarket replicas and staggered sizes - 275 tires in the rear and 245 in the front with diameters set to match OEM size (speedometer is accurate). Climate control system works well, sunroof works as well. Door microswitches are good, although the driver's door is slower to respond. The stereo is aftermarket (Blaupunkt head unit, components up front, HSU research sub in the trunk) and sounds great. The front speakers are installed in the stock kick panel location with tweeters in little pillows on the dash (didn't want to put holes in the dash!). The wiring for the OEM stereo is still in place but the amp, phone system, and stock CD changer have been removed. Since I bought it, it has had regular maintenance performed (air filter changes, 5000 mile oil/filter changes with full synthetic oil, spark plugs/wires, PCV valves, new rotors/pads, new batteries, alignments) as well as several corrective repairs: - replaced hazard flasher switch - replaced rear differential seal - replaced oxygen sensors - replaced brake booster o-ring and brake pressure regulator ("brake bomb") - replaced struts with Bilstein sports - replaced upper and lower front control arms - replaced hydraulic system hoses - replaced fuel pump - replaced drive shaft and transmission rear seal - replaced radiator and hoses - repaired transmission cooling line leak - replaced coolant reservoir tank (newer solid black reliable model installed) - replaced leaking stock mufflers with custom Magnaflow setup The intake manifold gaskets are in good shape and do not show any sign of leakage in cold weather. The emissions control system works and the car throws no codes. The car passed Washington State emissions last time it was tested (less than 2 years ago) and nothing has changed since then. The control system throws no codes except for an intermittent parking light failure that just showed up - every time I check the bulbs are all on, so I think a bulb is about to go but hasn't quite yet. Most of the tools are present as well as an OEM warning triangle. The not-so-good: The car has a few cosmetic issues. The car was repainted by a previous owner, I believe after it was vandalized externally (CARFAX should list a vandalism report when the car was in South Carolina prior to my most recent ownership). A few years ago, someone who doesn't know how to parallel park backed into her and cracked up the paint on the nose as you can see. One door ding on the driver's door. The roof side strip on the driver's side is missing which should be an easy and affordable fix. The sunroof lining fell off and I haven't reupholstered it (it actually kind of lends a nice air 'light wood' feel to the car without it!), and the C pillar linings and trunk shelf lining are loose. There is one TINY rust spot on the sunroof - it has not expanded in the last 7 years! The seat height adjustment cables have shrunk and occasionally pull out of the seat motors (easy fix - stick your head under the seats and push them back in a bit). All of these are easy fixes but didn't bother me enough to ever fix (it was a great daily driver, not a show car!). The car needs a wash as you can see from the pictures! The bonus: If the car sells for at least $4000 I will send the buyer a package with a mystery grab bag of spare parts (gaskets, filters, etc) and the stock stereo equipment. The car is currently garaged in Seattle Washington. Buy is responsible for picking the car up or otherwise arranging transportation for the car and all associated costs. Military work schedule may necessitate a shift of one or two days of a pickup date, but I will work diligently with the buyer to ensure you can get the car as close to the day you want it as possible! Buy it now price is below KBB fair condition value. On Jan-29-11 at 15:46:28 PST, seller added the following information: Edited to add: I've been asked about the "buy it now" price - since someone has bid, the buy it now is no longer an option - thanks for the interest!
