Vehicle Detail
Price : $2900 65. Owned by the same family for 25 years. Valiant with the original 273ci "V8", two barrel. "Center console" automatic floor shift with "bucket seats". Power steering. Manual top (spring loaded for ease of down and up). RECENT NEW PARTS: rebuilt carburetor. New valve cover gaskets and master cylinder(master cylinder was not yet installed when engine picture was taken). Both front brake wheel cylinders, metal lines and rubber flex hoses new and all the bleeders are free for the bleeding air out. I did bleed successfully, but the left rear brake occasionally sticks, which means new owner will have to replace both rear wheel cylinders and maybe couple lines. Shoes and other parts were ok. Also, new thermostat and gasket. Needs a water pump installed and a new one from Napa comes with it. The long time owner replaced the top, interior, maybe the carpet approximately five years ago. So, these items are still almost new (or interior may be the original; I can't remember what owner said; I'll have to call him). No holes in any of it. Top plastic window has NO fogging. Fairly new battery; holds charge; no drain. New oil filter & oil (done by previous owner just before I bought it). The dash is 95% crack free, clean. There are two seperations on molded areas on left and right of the center speaker. Doesn't look all bad since they follow the factory creases. All the glass is good with no fogging, seperation, cracks. All windows roll up and down easliy for a 45 year old Mopar. The carpet has no holes, shredding or shrinkage but has random faded areas, not too noticable and most will fabric color dye (I already did some; more dye comes with it). The top boot usable, but a new one would be better. Runs exceptionally well. Starts easy (w/several gas pedal kicks; once started, just turn the key). Has a nice V8 sound. Transmission is tight and responsive, but reverse floor shift position is a little off so must get use to it being just below Park(P). I put two gas filters on to filter any old sediments. Gauges seem to work correctly. All lights work except tail light parking, dash lights, and maybe brake lights. Still troubleshooting these. Wipers do not work (no fuse found yet). The heater blower motor works and seems to producing heat with no core leaks. There is bondo on the ends of both rockers as all would expect. The rockers over-all are solid, inside and out, with the factory weld seams all intact and strong. There is some bubbling on quarters, not yet showing rust through. The unibody is all strong, solid supporting the intended weight/stress points. There have been some patches, sealer fixes which some day maybe want to get factory floor panels welded in. The trunk is solid, no holes (see spare tire storage picture). It does have the original jack and spare/original spin down heavy board cover (not shown; have picture). Convertible top connections/spring mounts are strong. The rear bumper needs rechrome or replacement. The front bumper has a one to two inch chrome peel off. Looks like original radio (see inside trunk picture; presently has working aftermarket stereo/cassette). Two sets of keys and all locks work. This means a running, braking unrestored convertible, almost ready for driver fun. Kept out of the rain, it would need little. Someday metal repair and a paint job would take it to the next level. As is sale. This is selling for what a dismantled 6 cylinder would go for (and needing top++). I left out a "buy now" price because scammers tend to click it and end auction. Better to relist 10 times than play tag with them. $3500 will buy this. Since no brave soul has clicked the "button" a relist is most likely. I will have better underside pictures, and lucky for the next buyer, a new fuel pump and the water pump installed. I re-bled the brakes yesterday (since new master cylinder installed ) and that fixed the rear grabbing wheel. Then was test driving and gas feed to carb stopped. To get it out of the street and back to its parking space I gravity fed gas to carb. As long as gas was fed that way, it ran great; no gas pumping from open gas line to carb (fuel pump ordered; parts at all local suppliers). It looks as though the floors would require a couple back panels. Good thing is, the important original metals that the repair welds would need to connect to, are solid survivors. Spring is coming, only those that rule over yard work, need apply (purchase that is). It pays to NOT buy. Fuel & water pumps are installed as well as new upper/lower hoses. Radiator will need recore/clean ($300). Due to this, you (the one buyer needed) will have to pay $2900 to own (the amount I wanted >$3500 minus $350 radiator repair estimate; $250 labor allowances to remove and re-install repaired radiator). I keep checking for better Valiant prices with these options/new parts/unrestored/convertible/decent top-interior., and none to be found. Based upon looker and watcher tabulation numbers, there is a lot of interest (as I expected). A better one might be out there at this price, but not where I can see. All will need some mechanical and body repair. This has a good start if you want original V8 powered. To any, "wanna drive home people": NO (see my return answer in question answer section to DC questionier). Even as a project this V8 Signet convertible is worth $2900, any day of the week. But, it is not "jockey ready"(ready for cruise release). As noted: all good things come in time and grease on hands; then punch it to the floor. Transporting it to you will be cheaper, safer and not end up broke down half way home in unsafe domaine. You then can take it where needs to be (home-spun, hands-on, grease under finger nails final result).
