Vehicle Detail
Okay gang, let's get this car sold. Up for sale is a very nice 1982 240D Mercedes. If you're looking for a 1000 point show winner that can hold its own at the Mercedes museum, please keep looking, this ain't that car. This is a driver that is in good shape but showing its age in places. If you're looking for a solid diesel to convert to a veggie, or looking for a solid base for a restoration, or if you're looking for a top-self donor for another restoration, then this might be your car. It starts, runs, and drives well. At 67 factory horsepower, it will get you where you need to go, as long as you're not in a hurry. I received this car from my father-in-law who was the second owner. He bought it from his sister who bought it new. It's lived its life in Louisiana, so no major rust or other weather issues. Never wrecked, never flooded. The engine is the million-mile four banger and runs well. The automatic tranny shifts smooth and pulls well. The brakes are strong as far as I can tell. I've traced the engine vacuum system and it turns off with the key. The door lock system has a major leak somewhere so the next owner will have the joy of hunting down that issue. There are some minor dents, dings and scrapes but the body panels are straight and the paint is in surprisingly good shape with just small chips and scratches here and there. The heater works with no leaks. The car has a host of other small things that will keep a tinkerer busy for some time. This must have been a base model because it has manual windows and no sunroof. It does have cruise-control but I don't know if it's working. A partial list of things I know the car needs: It's been in the sun for the lest few years so most of the exterior rubber seals need to be replaced. It needs a new A/C compressor. The rear axle C/V boots need to be replaced. The dashboard cover is cracked. Minor vacuum leak in the climate control system. Steering box is worn allowing some minor play in the steering. It needs a new radio. It has two new tires and a new battery. This car is a driver. The car is in Dallas, TX. Buyer is responsible for shipping but I will work with you to get it to its new home. I am pretty firm on the price. If you have any additional questions please feel free to shoot me an e-mail but please, only serious inquiries. I have the car advertised locally and reserve the right to end this listing at any time.
