Vehicle Detail
Up for sale is my beloved 1981 DeLorean DMC-12. It has a build date of Nov 81. Overall it is in very good condition for its age. All the stainless panels are in nice shape with only a few dents here and there. When I bought the car it had a 1983 style flat hood which I was able to replace with the correct 1981 hood for the car. The interior is in nice shape with only some fading to the dash. I have purchased all the cans of vinyl prep and dye to re-dye the interior to its factory finish which will be included in the sale. Seats are in great shape with no tears and are original. The back of the driver seat will need some repair to the backing (the vinyl is fine) to be re-attached to the seat. The are some cracks in the trunk area of the fiberglass, and was repaired rather poorly. It does not pose a structural problem, but could use some refurbishing. The engine is running and has recently received an entirely new fuel system including having the gas tank dropped and cleaned out. I also recently replaced the master cylinder and slave cylinder for the clutch and it works well now. The car needs some minor engine work to get it running as a daily driver (new coolant reservoir, spark plugs, throttle spring ect) but it does run as is and I do drive it about once a week. There is some rust in the door sill from water sitting (which most Delorean's have) and there is a rain leak in the passenger side of the car. I believe this is simply a clogged drain issue from the windshield and could easily be cleaned out for proper rain drainage. Other than that the radio works perfectly and the speakers all seem fine. Windshield wipers work fine, door locks may need some attention but do work on occasion. I would imagine all electrical connections could simply be cleaned and they'd work well since they work half the time now. What is new on the car:-Brand new Cooper Cobra performance tires-Clutch master cylinder and slave cylinder with upgraded stainless clutch pipe-Brand new DMC gray floor mats-New door headliners from DMC Houston with new gas struts-Repainted rear louvers-New fuel system and cleaned gas tank-DMC Houston cool air intake and K&N filter-New deluxe form fitted dash mat What the car will need:-Parking brake repair-AC switch repair (it was working fine but the switch broke and will not turn on now)-Engine tune up-Some engine parts (About $300 worth for full throttle switch, throttle spring, coolant bottle, spark plugs ect)-Some interior refurbishing-Optional fiberglass repair in trunk area (up to owners descrection. With the carpet in you can't see where it was repaired)-Tranny and motor mounts Overall the car just needs some minor interior refurbishing and about $300 worth of parts to get the engine running great and to turn this into a beautiful daily driver. I have owned the car for about 8 months now and when I purchased it I had it shipped from West Virginia where it spent all its life. I was told at the time that it had been sitting for about 10 years (hence the low mileage) and so I immediately had the gas tank dropped and cleaned and a new fuel system installed. As far as I know I am the third owner since its sale in 1981. I have run a car fax and it is clean. It also recently passed smog with flying colors. If you have any questions or would like to come see the car please email me and I will reply in a timely manner. Thanks for looking and happy bidding!
