1999 New Style TDI Jetta 5-speed manual Believe it needs transmission. I believe that something broke in the transmission, it goes into all the gears but, when you let the clutch out it engages but makes a rattling noise and will not move. The transmission was getting worn. The clutch is original. The engine runs great! It uses no oil between changes and it doesn't leak at all. This car has had the VW dealer do oil changes from new to 160k miles. From then to current I have done all of the maintenance using only Castrol Syntec 5W-40 synthetic oil. I have changed the oil every 5k miles rather than recommended 10k. I purchased this car used with 78k miles and have done all repairs and maintenance since 160k myself. All parts are OEM. New AC Compressor done at 220k miles, New starter at 240k, new alternator at 260k, glow plugs 230k, water jacket glow plugs, water temp sensor, rear brakes, rear wheel speed sensors, 2 N75 valves, EGR solenoid and EGR valve, were all replaced at 318k miles. I replaced all these parts at the same time because the car needed an EGR valve and I wanted to make sure all surrounding parts were replaced at the same time to keep car reliable. Timing belts were done at 80k, 160k, and 240k. Milage shows that it is time to replace timing belt again. Front brakes still have life about 30k to 40k miles left according to the way I drive. Tires are about 40% life left on LFT side tires, 20% life left on RT rear, and 60% life left on RT front. The RT front is newer, thanks to a nail. The hood, grill and headlights were replaced 3 yrs ago after hitting a deer. The bottom piece on the bumper is gone and so is the bottom left grill insert along with the two front VW emblems on the wheels. There are minimal chips in the paint, the entire car still shines. The other issues are that the drivers lock is broken, the interior lights on the heat controls don't work, the AC works and is cold, but not ICE COLD. AC condensor may need to be cleaned of bugs and road debris, not sure. The cup holder is broken. The apolstery is pulling from the foam on the door panels. The seats are a little dirty, not too bad. The car just got a North Carolina inspection sticker last month. It broke on my trip to Massachusetts for the holidays. The car is in Massachusetts now. If I had more time, I would bring it home and repair it, but I would not be able to do this till summer. This car has been a great, reliable, 50+ mpg on average car to myself and my wife. We have seen upto 55 mpg on hwy trips. This car has a North Carolina title but is located in Massachusetts. Local pickup only.
