1989 Honda Civic Wagon; Drive It Home... Click on any image in the body of this listing to view MUCH larger versions. This is a 1989 Civic four door wagon with the the 1.5L SOHC 16 valve four cylinder engine and 5-speed manual. AM/FM radio, no power gadgets, no air conditioning, no all-wheel drive. I have owned it since new; the Mass. title is clear and in hand. This car has 114,296 miles on it, as seen in the pix. It has spent the last four years parked after being bumped in the rear by a pickup at an intersection. This was my fault and was settled with the other driver on the spot; no accident report or insurance claim was filed. I fully intended to repair the damage immediately and put this car back on the road, but have since purchased several other vehicles making this one surplus. As you can see, the hatch has been replaced; I also replaced the left taillight, popped out some pushed-in sheet metal (mostly hidden under the bumper and taillight), corrected the hatch latch alignment so it lines up and works normally (this includes the inside release and lock), repaired the rear wiper drive so it stays on the glass when operating, and remounted the outer plastic bumper (it fell off when hit because the mounts were weakened by corrosion). There's some obvious body rust-thru behind the two rear wheel wells; this car will not pass Mass. safety inspection until this is fixed. This car should however be legal to register and drive as-is in many other states. All tires are serviceable and will be for a while; the fronts have more life left than the others. The battery is recent; the original alternator froze up just prior to the accident, so the replacement has only about 200 miles on it. This car starts, runs, stops, shifts and goes very nicely; you can drive it home. What makes it special... This particular Civic has an aftermarket moon roof. It also has a Bearcat BC580XLT 100 channel police scanner (with NOAA weather) mounted under the dash, and a permanent roof antenna for same. From the day I bought it to the day I stopped using it, it averaged 35 mph or better regardless of what kind of driving I did, what I put in it, where I went, what the weather was... Only rarely did I get less than 420 miles prior to filling it's 11.9 gallon tank. This little car weighs only 2260 pounds, and has more cargo room inside than just about anything in it's class currently sold. It's zippy, cute and practical, and it puts more recent Honda styling to shame. It comes with two extra wheels and tires. I planned to add power windows and bought a Spal kit that powers two. It is unused (although the box has suffered from storage) and is included along with a Commando remote locking control kit; note that this kit does NOT include lock solenoids, switches or linkages (I intended to harvest this stuff from a parts Accord I no longer have access to). Also included is a tan retractible (window shade type) load cover from an SUV which is a close size fit and could easily be mounted in this car. I have the original owner's manual, a Haynes shop manual, and the scanner's manual; I'll also provide the scanner's AC adaptor and a plug-in antenna in case you want to demount it and use it indoors. This car has never been smoked in. What needs fixing; Toward the end of use, the clutch could be made to slip if you made an effort; this will need to be dealt with soon. I'd also recommend a new timing belt as it's well past the recommended mileage, and sitting around may have aged the belt more than using it would have. The automatic choke has become sticky since being parked, although I recently oiled the linkage and haven't seen the behavior the last few times I've started the car. The interior light door switches don't work reliably, but the lights themselves come on OK with the dome light switches. The driver's seat back is badly chowed along one side (see pix); the rest of the upholstery and interior are pretty good but need a good cleaning and dusting out. The plastic bumper remounting arrangement I created will allow short-term use but I'd suggest making some permanent new mounts for the plastic skin from steel strap or the like. The exhaust system is quiet but old and has some rust. Lastly, the door speakers for the AM/FM radio are blown and sound awful. This vehicle is sold AS-IS with no warranty or return privilege; you should buy it with the clear understanding that it will need TLC, clutch repair or replacement, and (if only to protect your investment) a timing belt. If you'd rather not obtain a plate and drive it home, I will trailer this car to you anywhere in a fifty-mile radius of Springfield or Pittsfield Ma for a flat $100. To choose this option; after purchasing the vehicle, request (via eBay messaging or email) a Paypal invoice for this additional amount, and specify what town I'll be delivering to.
