Vehicle Detail

SquareTrade © AP6.0 Up for bid is a very clean, nearly rust free 1981 VW Pickup LX Caddy (Rabbit pickup), just brought up from Texas! The original 4 cylinder GAS motor is mated to a 5 speed manual transmission. The truck runs well and drives great, although once it is warmed up, it likes to stall at idle, but it throttles well and cruises well too. The odometer reads 183,999, but did stop working on the trip back from TX, so it has closer to 185,000 on it (the plastic gear undoubtedly broke, as the speedometer works as it should). The truck does have air conditioning, but is not currently working. The paint has a good shine (could use a buff & wax to really make it striking). There are some scratches and chips, but no dents, with the exception of one very small one on the passenger fender between the wheel well and door (photo shows dent and one of the few areas of rust on the truck). There is one other exterior rust which is on the driver's side rocker panel, shown on another photo. The last rust is in the bed aread, and all areas are photographed. All in all this is a very solid truck - no rust on the shock towers, floors, tailgate, wheel wells, etc. The interior is in good condition overall. The lights work, the dash has no cracks, instrument bezel has not been cut for aftermarket stereo, shifter boot is not torn, vents are not broken, etc. The seats do not match each other, but are both tan. The door panels are very nice, as are the visors and headliner. The truck has never been smoked in, evidenced by the fact that the ashtray and lighter have never been used and there are no disgusting smells. The original jack and lug nut wrench are tucked under the driver's seat in the original mounts. The truck also has dual remote mirrors. The glass is all good in the truck, including the cap. The truck also has a sliding rear window, and the windows in the cap are also sliders, with screens. It has the opening vent windows, and the driver's side has been upgraded to the style with the fastener, while the passenger side is still the glue type, and of course the swivel has come loose, so that window is sealed with clear tape. All of the exterior lights work, and none of the lenses are cracked. The driver's side front turn signal either has a few fasteners missing or broken, as it is held in place by clear tape. The bumpers are in good condition.. The fiberglass cap is also in very good condition, and appears to have been on the truck since new, since the paint in the bed is so nice. The struts for the back door are in need of replacement. Tires on the truck are nearly new (still blue tint on the raised white letters) and are a complete matched set of Pirellis. They are mounted on 13" alloy rims from a similar vintage Rabbit convertible and are in nearly perfect condition - no pitting, no curb rash, and all 4 center caps. Believe it or not, the original spare tire rack is still intact and holds the spare. There are also a set of 13" steel rims with center caps and trim rings that go with the truck. Two of those tires are ok, the other two are not. It has new brakes, new front struts and a new front wheel bearing. Transmission shifts well, and does not pop out of gear or grind. Exhaust is quiet. No vibrations or other mechanical problems. This is a great driver, would make a great base for a restoration, or a fun truck to trick out with GTI trim or customize. When you've got this solid of a base, the possibilities are endless! Winter storage (indoor, heated) is available for $250 for the season. Call or email if you would like to set up a time to check out the truck. I would have no concerns about flying in to Grand Rapids (I will pick up the buyer at the airport) and driving it anywhere. You can have a transport company pick it up, or if you would like, you can hire a friend of mine who will drive it to you (lower 48 only), provided you will drop him off at an airport so he can get back. If that is your desire, contact me for a quote. Thanks!
