Vehicle Detail
SquareTrade © AP6.0 1982 Mercedes Benz 380 SL, straight from Texas! A little over 129,000 miles on this Texas beauty! 3.8 liter V8 with automatic transmission. Soft top and removable hard top. While the car is not perfect, it is nice! There have only been 3 owners before me, and aside from a few Ontario registrations by one of the owners, the car has only been titled & registered in Texas, until I brought it to Michigan. The car drove great the 1,300 miles from TX to MI, and pulled about 18-22 mpg! The odometer did quit working just before the trip to MI, so the car has about 131,000 on it. This is likely the small plastic gear that just needs to be pushed back in place, as the speedometer still works. It's got a fresh paint job in the original color; there are some scratches on the passenger side from the previous owner removing the top, but they are not to the metal (see photo). The dash cracked from the sun, but it is not awful. The seats, carpet and door panels are in great condition, as is the mini rear "jump" seat (driver's seat has small crack - not a tear - see photo) Floors and body are solid! All of the glass is good, the power windows work, as do the windshield wipers. All of the gauges work. All of the lights work. The radio lights up, but no display and no sound. The switch for the cabin fan does not seem to be working, and the wood bezel that sets between the radio and climate conrol has a broken tab, so it wants to fall off. The varnish on the wood surrounding the shifter is chipping off, but the wood is in good condition. The A/C is currently inoperative or low on freon - not sure which. The safety neutral switch must be going out, because sometimes the car needs to be in neutral in order to start. There are occassions where "Park" does not engage, and the car will roll if on an incline. Moving the car from drive to park a few times will rectify this. Fortunately the emergency brake works perfectly (a testimony to the fact this car is not from the "rust belt"). The hardtop is in good condition, but does have a small tear in the headliner, and the inside of the base of the top has rusted through (not a structural or visual problem, as it is not part of the framework nor is it visible when it is on the car). The convertible top does have two tears and needs replacement. There are NO fluid leaks, and the car does not burn any oil. The rims have a good shine to the chrome, but do have some minor pitting. The tires are a nealry new matched set of Firestones. The spare is included, along with the jack. Brakes and exhaust are good condition. What it really needs is a tune up, as it runs a bit rough when it is cold, but then smooths out once it has warmed up. It is a very smooth ride, and a true joy to drive! NADA low retail value is $13,200 for this car! The opening bid on this NO RESERVE AUCTION is less than half of that! BIN price includes the following: Complete tune up Bumper to bumper inspection and repair to any mechanical problem found (while I am confident no problems will be found because there are none, to put yourself at ease, I'll boldly offer this so that it is my responsibility to repair anything on my coin) Repair (or re-charge, if that is the issue) to the A/C system Delivery to anywhere in the lower 48 states Check my feedback. I accurately represent what I sell. While there are differences of opinion when it comes to vehicles, I stick to the facts and do not embelish. Ask questions, and have fun bidding! Remember that if you are the high bidder and the reserve is met, you have a contractual responsibility to pay for the car. I''m honest, and ask you to be as well. If you want to see any additional photos of any part of the car, let me know.. One last thought: Would'nt this make a great Christmas gift for that special someone, or maybe for yourself?!
