You are bidding on a 1963 Amphicar. I purchased this from Ron Duffner a couple months ago (some of you may know him as a long time multi-amphicar owner. After getting this amphicar, I have since bought 2 real Delahaye 135's and 2 amphicars among other tasty auto's. If you know collectors like me we change our mind on what to keep by which way the wind is blowing. Anyhoo, I am going to repeat his information because it is most accurate. He put well over $30,000 in parts and labor into her. Here goes. Ron purchased 6 years ago from a farmer that had stored it in his garage fourth years and only put 64 miles on it. The car had some rust and dust, so I restored it from the metal up, changing the color from white to red, and had the engine and transmission torn down and all seals checked. I have used the car extensively (6865 miles) to and from my houseboat at a lake 2 miles from my home. It has performed extremely well and now has developed some rust spots on the door bottoms and jams, and the engine compartment has the normal rust spots under the battery box that I have patched to minimize leaks. These spots should be properly patched before any heavy lake use. The car used to sit in the lake all week end with minimum leakage. If you have never owned an Amphicar, you need to go to the Amphicar Club web site and read the necessities of ownership before you purchase one. I have owned 6 other Amphicars and have enjoyed them fully, but you need to be aware that they require some maintainence to keep them up and running in top shape. Parts are readily avaliable from Grodon Imports in California. I do not intend to misrepresent this car in any way and would be happy for anyone to inspect the car prior to bidding. Due to other interest, I have not taken this car to the lake in a year. All 4 brakes and lines were repaired and serviced in October (Parts and Labor exceeded $2,500). The car swam at the lake with some leakage last year during last use. Tires are very good tread and no rot, interior is in good shape and was new at restore. Transmission works well, water transmission works well, and motor starts and runs well. All door seals have hardened and need replaced (not a major item, but necessary to be water tight, these have to be replaced about once a year). Fenders and doors have some minor dents and scratches. Please look closely at the pictures, as they were taken today. To drive this unique automobile is to invite a lot of attention. You cannot stop anywhere without drawing a crowd. You will have people snapping lots of photos, chasing you to the boatramp to see you launch. There are often 5 or 6 cars following us to the ramp. You can launch from shore or ramp or where ever you can hit the water. Just drive in, Shift the propellers into gear, and go. Propellers are both in new condition with no chips or breaks. I was even asked to do a Chucky Cheese Pizza video, which ran for several years for the company. If you don't like the attention, don't bid. Please do not take it that I am saying the car will swim today, though I am fairly confident it will, I have not swam it since late last summer. There will be no guarantee and the car is sold as is.
