Vehicle Detail
At auction is my BMW 745i Turbo Executive sedan, pretty much in as found condition. I saved this car from an uncertain fate in the summer of 2009. This car was purchased and brought to this country in 1984 at the unheard of price of $60,000. Since these cars were not available at the time as a US model, it is a gray market car. This particular vehicle was lucky and was spared the Federalization destruction, other than the very basics needed to pass a visual inspection. It retained the Euro bumpers, lights, no door bracing and no emissions!! The 745i has a 295HP 3.5 Turbo (M102) six cylinder (Big Six), ZF22HP 4 speed automatic transmission, utilizing a KKK turbocharger and a large intercooler, similar to the Porsche 930 Turbo. The car has a massive cooling system and oil cooler, which is special only to the 745i. The 745i was a near 150MPH car in stock form, with all the luxury options you could think of, like heated front AND rear seats, reclining rear seats, and even more options than the base E23 offered at the time. This Executive even has the beautiful Buffalo Hide leather seats and door cards, along with real burl walnut wood trim. In terms of performance and options, The 745i was not even in the same solar system as the base 735i. The 745i was a true sleeper for those who understand how to make it work properly. The 745i and the lesser 735i are a truly classic design that offered the right size, weight and balance of any car with any configuration. The 745i Executive is truly an exceptional car. Unfortunately, these cars were often neglected and treated improperly by owners who just didn't appreciate them. The history of this car is limited to one or two previous owners in Massachusetts and New Hampshire. My understanding is that it was tied up in a nasty divorce, and sat for a few years. When I found, it, I did some basics, especially to the brakes, which were partly missing. I replaced the missing front caliper with a rebuilt OEM unit, changed the fluids, and gave it a basic cleaning. The car starts and drives. The transmission engages properly, with no slip. All gears work as they should. Since the car hasn't been driven in a few years, it should be gone over completely before use, as it's a bit stiff from sitting. The interior is all original, the gray cloth headliner is in good condition, as is the carpeting, with only a few spots, which will probably come out. The beautiful genuine Water Buffalo hide leather has some bolster wear on the front seats, but is actually in very good condition, with no rips or tears. The leather should be cleaned, softened and then redyed black. They would look amazing! The car has only minor surface rust and dents here and there, including a minor dent in the roof above the driver door. It was repainted a navy blue, with the original color being a nice Alpine Blue, which is in the engine bay. As you can see from the pictures, idiots spray painted designs on the roof, trunk lid and sides. These compound out easily, as I have already removed some. The right rear foot well is dented and much of the trunk trim is missing. The tool box is mostly complete, but the tools are rusty. The car is still fitted with its original metric alloy rims. The tires are ancient, with some cracking, but none leak any air. There is no spare tire. A spare KKK turbo, brake caliper and intercooler are available for purchase separately, or will be included with the buy it now price. The buyer will receive a bill of sale only, along with all documentation in my possession. The State of New Hampshire does not provide a title for a vehicle of this age. I am reluctant to sell this exceptional car, but I have a number of projects ahead of it, and would like to find someone who would appreciate it and bring it back properly. I don't want it to sit in storage any longer. It needs to be used and appreciated!! Any questions, please feel free to contact me. I would be happy to show the car, if you're in the area. Just give me some notice, so I can get it out. This car has the 3.4 litre M106 motor. According to my source, the turbo charger will boost the horsepower by 1.4 times. Thanks Ed for the question. Sorry for my error. The car's been in storage and off my radar for a while, and my memory failed me. Chris
