Vehicle Detail
1970 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 – Stock, Original, Rust Free, w/low original miles. I recently listed my FJ40 on EBay and it did not meet my reserve price. My desire is to sell this wonderful 4X4 this week so I have reluctantly lowered the reserve price SIGNIFICANTLY. The new reserve price is now under $10,000! If interested, please read on for more detailed information. If you have been searching for a totally stock, “no rust ever” FJ40 with incredibly low original miles, then look no further! This amazing Land Cruiser spent the first 28 years of its life with its original owner on his winery in the Napa Valley area of Northern California. During this time it was driven only 80,000 miles. In 1998 the original owner sold it to a retired Levi Strauss executive from Danville (Blackhawk), CA who kept it at his summer home to go fishing and putt around town. Over the next 11 years he would drive it less than 10,000 miles. I purchased this FJ40 one year ago and have kept it garaged at my cabin (down the street from the 2nd owner) and have used it sparingly on weekends. However, I simply have not driven it enough to warrant keeping it any longer. It’s time to let somebody else enjoy this vintage 4X4 – it deserves to be driven more often. As a side note, this car could easily be used as an everyday vehicle or even driven cross country in a heartbeat – it runs and drives that well! INTERIOR: The interior is very original and in great overall condition. This includes the dash top, dash, gauges, knobs, steering wheel, seats, visors, and everything else. It’s about as stock and original as it gets. In addition, this FJ40 is one of the most rust free that you will ever find! The floors are virtually perfect and incredibly solid – no rust repairs ever! EXTERIOR: The body is in excellent condition with no dings or dents. It was repainted the original color (exterior only) about 20 years ago. It has aged well with only some nicks, chips, scratches, etc. but nothing significant. It has a very nice patina to it and looks beautiful from just a few feet away. The hardtop still sports its original paint (as does the entire interior) and is in excellent shape with no dings or dents as well. It has never been taken off the car. MECHANICALS: Mechanically, I don’t think it gets any better for a 40 year old vehicle that still retains its original engine, transmission, etc… It truly runs and drives like new! The engine always fires right up and idles perfectly even if it hasn’t been driven in a month or more. The transmission shifts like butter and the brakes are like new (because they are!). This 4X4 has recently had nearly $5,000 worth of mechanical repairs and upgrades to make it one of the most reliable, nicest driving Land Cruisers anywhere! In addition, everything works and/or functions properly including all the lights, blinkers, horn, windshield wipers, gauges, etc. Here are some of the fully documented repairs/upgrades that have been done to this FJ40 over the past 500 – 3,000 miles: Total brake system rebuild - $1,305 Brake hoses, master cylinder - $346 Five new Cooper All-Season tires - $415 Upgraded electrical - $58 Upgraded steering and suspension - $880 New KYB shocks - $352 Four-wheel alignment - $69 Clutch cylinder, master cylinder - $73 Complete new clutch (500 miles ago) - $750 Exhaust headers, warm up kit - $248 Front brush bar - $99 Hella H-3 off-road headlights - $187 Chrome stone guards (for headlights) - $15 My 1970 FJ40 is in great original condition both mechanically and cosmetically. It even smells original! From the bench seat and the “3-on-the-tree” transmission, to the red with white top color combo, to the original gauges, knobs, wheels, and hubcaps – even the FACTORY MOUNTED SAW underneath the front hood – this FJ40 is about as old school as you’ll ever see. Please do not ask what my reserve price is. However I will tell you this – we have driven the car from our cabin back to our home where it was recently taking up my wife’s parking spot in the garage. I am now having to pay $200 a month to store it at an indoor storage facility. Needless to say, our desire is to sell it ASAP and we have placed our reserve price at a point well below what the value is for a really nice, original, rust free, low-mileage Land Cruiser. If you are lucky enough to be the winning bidder, please plan on viewing it before the end of the auction. Do not wait until after the auction to inspect it, and then attempt to make a lower offer based on frivolous or trivial things. This would not be fair to me or the other legitimate bidders. The highest bidder buys this wonderful FJ40 and is expected, without exception, to be prepared to pay the full purchase price within 72 hours of the end of the auction by cash, cashier’s check, or wire transfer to my bank account (Wells Fargo Bank). Lastly, I will NOT BE CHECKING ANY EMAILS, so please feel free to call me on my cell phone between 7:00 AM and 9:00 PM PST (California). I will be happy to answer any further questions you may have as honestly as possible. My phone number is 916-220-2460. Thanks and good luck.
