Vehicle Detail
1967 Austin London Taxi with Toyota 22R engine, Toyota 4 speed manual transmission and Toyota electrical system. Weber 32/36 Carburetor. Zirgo electric cooling fan. Runs great. If you have ever driven a stock diesel FX4 I'm sure you will be pleasantly surprised by the power this vehicle has. Plus if you ever need engine, transmission , or electrical parts they are available down at your local auto parts store at a reasonable price. Toyota reliability married to a classic London Cab. What more could one ask for? The engine, transmission and electrical system was donated by a 1985 Toyota 2wd pickup truck. I do not know the mileage on this engine. I have no idea if it has been rebuilt in the past. The reason zero milage is stated in the ad is because I do not know the actual mileage on the taxi. I believe one can safely assume it is well over 100,000 miles. The speedometer does not work. One would need to get a ratio converter from a speedometer shop to hook it up. The ammeter and oil pressure gauges are not hooked up. However, there are idiot lights for the oil pressure and alternator which work. The heater works. No missing glass, no cracks and its all intact. The inside rear view mirror is missing. Rust issues- There are small pockets of surface rust on all sides of vehicle, particularly around the window areas. The door post of the drivers door seems to have some rust issues as there is some play in that door. The rear end is leaking around the pinion area. I have a new seal for it but have not gotten around to replacing it. All brake shoes have been replaced and drums turned. All wheel cylinders and master cylinders have been repaired or replaced. All front brake lines have been replaced and some of the rear ones. The tires have plenty of tread on them. The radiator and alternator have been replaced. I do not know the gas mileage of the taxi. There is no buy it now price. Parts are available from Kip Motor in Dallas Texas or Vintage Taxi Spares LTD. in England. This is a fun vehicle to drive around in on the weekends with friends. I would not recommend it as a daily driver to and from work. It is after all 43 years old and retired after many hard years work in London. I would recommend that the buyer be somewhat mechanically inclined and not adverse to turning a wrench once in a while.
