Vehicle Detail
Relisted due to non-paying "winner". This time with NO RESERVE.This BMW 600 Limousine is a great matching numbers project car. In 1967 the original owner cut the roof section off to make a sled for his kids! Then decided to continue to ‘saws-all’ both sides off to convert the ‘Isetta limo’ into a ‘golf cart’. Both side body sections that were cut off are included which are in excellent condition. The roof section is also included but is in poor condition and in our opinion will require a donor. This car has no rust and never has (other than roof section) and is complete with 14,000 original miles. Engine is not running but turns freely by hand. Original glass is included. Old (but matching) PA title included in previous owner’s name. Therefore the vehicle is being sold as a ‘parts vehicle’ but the title is included. 1967 Pennsylvania inspection sticker still on windshield. Title states sold in Pennyslvania on 10-5-1960 with a $100 encumbrance to John Eisenhauer Inc dealership of Wernersville, PA. Sold as is where is. VIN: 146200. Engine #: 146200 (same number as VIN). Frame #: 146200 (same as VIN). Great project. NO RESERVE. Germans in the 1950s were not concerned with having "the ultimate driving machine," they were just happy not to be walking or pedaling. With a limited market for cars like the spectacular and expensive 507 roadster, BMW needed a volume model to survive. They understood the needs of the post-war European market and decided the best niche to exploit was the sub-VW Beetle class of microcars that had become popular with Germans who had not yet fully recovered from the ravages of the Second World War. BMW needed to expand its model range, but they did not have the resources to develop an all-new car with an all-new engine. Therefore, it used the Isetta as starting point for a new four-seater economy car – The 600. Listed in BMW catalogs of the day as a "limousine," the BMW 600 could seat four in relative comfort. Sales of the 600 Eggsecutive Limo were initially buoyed by the Suez crisis and the resulting fuel shortages. However, it was simply not competitive with the Volkswagen and at a price of several hundred Deutsche Marks higher, it made little sense for any but the most fuel-economy obsessed. It was dropped after about 35,000 examples were produced. The 600 is powered by the 582 cc (35.5 cu in) flat-twin engine from the R67 motorcycle/sidecar combination. This engine, which delivered 19.5 horsepower (14.5 kW) at 4,500 revolutions per minute, is mounted behind the rear wheels. A four-speed manual gearbox was standard. This BMW 600 is a non-running rolling chassis vehicle. Please email with any questions before bidding. A car trailer or hauler will be required to relocate the vehicle.
