Vehicle Detail

This original condition, low mileage 1968 AMC Ambassador SST Sedan is owned by the AACA (Antique Automobile Club of America) Museum in Hershey, Pennsylvania, a non-profit museum dedicated to the preservation and interpretation of transportation history. The car was donated to the Museum three years ago. Up until its donation it was a one-family owned vehicle. The car was recently removed from storage for photography for this listing. It started almost immediately after receiving a battery and fresh gas. It is a nice original car that runs well and has no mechanical issues or major defects. While not a show car, it is in good overall condition and will serve its new owner well. It is offered to the highest bidder with a low opening bid and no reserve. All proceeds benefit the Museum. The car is not for sale outside of eBay and the auction will not be ended early. VIN: A8A857T321665 A8 1968 A Automatic Transmission on Column 8 Car Line – Ambassador 5 Body Type/Style – Four Door Sedan 7 Series or Class of Body – AMX/Rogue/SST Ambassador T Engine Type – 343 CID V8, 4 Barrel 321665 Sequential Number – Kenosha, Wisconsin Plant American Motors built 13,387 Ambassador SST Sedans for 1968. This is a nice, mostly original example. It is finished in Turbo Silver Paint and has a blue interior. It was owned by the purchasing family right up to the time of its donation to the Museum. It comes with many original documents, including the owner’s manual and copy of the original sales invoice documenting its June 22, 1968 purchase from B. F. Weaver Motors Incorporated, the Rambler Dealer in Coatesville, PA. The purchase price was $4,078.50. It was purchased new with a host of options, including: Seat and Shoulder Belts, Front and Rear Optional 343 CID, 4V Engine Automatic Transmission Twin-Grip Differential Heavy Duty Radiator Heavy Duty Fan Heavy Duty Shroud All-Season Air Conditioning System Power Steering Power Brakes Cruise-Command Auto Speed Control Adjust O Tilt Steering Wheel Visibility Group Exterior Paint Stripe AM Push Button Radio Duo-Coustic Rear Speaker Front and Rear Bumper Guards Undercoating Handling Package The Ambassador has never been restored and we believe it still has its original paint. It was garaged kept for most of its life, which shows in its overall condition. It is not a show vehicle but an excellent survivor. The car has been used infrequently and may need fluid changes, a/c recharge and other basic maintenance but other than that is ready for the road. We know of no major problems or defects with the car. It is an original car and does show some signs of use and wear. The body is straight but does have some blemishes. The most obvious are a series of paint chips on the edge of the hood and some surface rust on the edge of the rear fenders and wheel wells. There are no holes in the car and the areas could probably be cleaned up and repaired fairly easily or even ignored. The underside of the doors are fairly clean as is the chassis and other underbody components. The interior is also original and does show signs of wear. There are at least two small splits in the upholstery, which are shown in one of the photographs. The black spot on the trunk photo is a shadow; there is no damage to this area. The listing includes 24 photos that show the overall condition of the car and some of the specific areas that are less than perfect. We have many more images so please let us know if you would like to see more of the underside, interior or anything specific. The car is accurately represented in the photographs, but interested parties are encouraged to ask questions and/or schedule a personal inspection. This vehicle is offered as is, where is, with no warranty expressed or implied. It has a valid Pennsylvania title which will be transferred to the new owner upon successful completion of the transaction. Shipping and transportation of the AMC will be the responsibility of the new owner. We will gladly work with you or the shipper/transporter of your choice to coordinate the move. The new owner will have two weeks from the completion of the auction to pick up the vehicle unless other arrangements are made in advance. The car is located at the AACA Museum, 161 Museum Drive, Hershey, PA 17033. Payment may be in the form of cash, money order, cashier’s check or PayPal (with all fees paid by the purchaser). Thank you for your interest in our AMC Ambassador SST and this auction. Interested parties are encouraged to email or call with questions, to request additional photographs or schedule a personal inspection.
