Vehicle Detail
You are bidding on a 1987 Ford Mustang GT Convertible. This is THE car of the late 80's! 1987 was a great year for the Mustang as it received a majot makeover from the 79-86 models. 87 was the best selling year for Mustang since 1966. This car is in great original condition. Everything about this car is nice and well cared for. The odometer shows just shy of 66,800 miles and it runs beautifully. Nothing under the hood has been modified in any way whatsoever with the exception of basic maintenance. The under-hood components are bone stock. I recently performed a full tune up including spark plugs, plug wires, distributor cap and rotor. I also replaced the air filter, fuel filter and engine oil and filter. I performed a transmission filter and fluid change and flushed the coolant. The timing is in factory spec and the car starts and runs easily and smoothly in all speeds and in all gears. I replaced the radiator and heater core about 1000 miles ago. The heater core replacement is about a 6 hour job. It was no joke! I also replaced the upper and lower radiator hoses and the cooling system works perfectly. The previous owner performed a 5 lug conversion and added 16" factory Mustang wheels. The conversion looks professionally done using genuine Ford parts. My guess is that the rotors were swapped from a 91 Lincoln Mark VII and the complete rear assembly was swapped from a 95 Mustang GT. The Automatic overdrive transmission shifts perfectly through all the gears with no shutter, hesitation or slippage. I would not hesitate to drive this car anywhere, it is 100% mechanically sound. It passed metro Atlantas strict emissions easily in August. Even the emission station operator was surprised how cleanly it was running. The only mechanical issue I can find is a slight brake vibration and a slight rattle from a heat shield under the cat. My guess is that it needs to have its rotors turned to cure the vibration. The front pads and rear shoes still have about 60% life left so I haven't done it yet. The car stops perfectly, no pull, no sounds. it's not a safety issue. It has four matching Bridgestone tires with about 70% treadlife remaining on the fronts and 60% remaining on the rears. Tire size is 225/55r16. The heater and Air conditioning work perfectly, A/C blows nice and cold! All heat and A/C controls work properly and the heat and defrost work just like they should. There is an aftermarket CD player and nice aftermarket speakers. Sounds nice! The exhaust looks recently replaced, looks like a nice professional job using 2 1/2 inch pipe and Flowmaster mufflers. The steering is smooth and responsive as expected and all the interior electronics work as they should minus the horn. I don't know why it won't blow. Overall this car is in great mechanical condition. I just finished a serious road trip in this car, I drove from Atlanta to Hershey, PA then onto NY city, then back home to Atlanta via Washington DC. It ran perfectly, not a single hiccup. It laid down 25 MPG on the highway with the top down. There are no fluid leaks whatsoever. Mechanically it needs NOTHING for a safe roadtrip, don't hesitate to fly in and drive this car home! Cosmetically, this car is in really nice condition. The paint is nice, shiny and has no major defects. There are no dents or damage. All the black trim is nice, all the glass is perfect and the original top in in good condition. The top has a very minor cut, about 1/4 inch long at the upper seam. Its REALLY minor, probably not even worth mentioning. On the interior the seats are in great original condition along with the dash, headliner, console and door panels. There are no tears, rips or noticeable wear. There is a small 1" imperfection in the right rear quarter trim panel, it's visible in one of the pics. The carpet is a bit faded on the passenger side and it has period correct floormats. I added a really nice dual cupholder setup from Mustangs Unlimited which matches perfectly. I love that thing! This car is super clean! The engine, undercarriage, door jambs, interior, everything is really clean. It won't even need to be washed when you pick it up! I'd be happy to take photos of any part of this car that you want to see, just ask. Email me with any questions, I'll respond within 24 hours. If you want to see and drive the car, just email and I'll make the arrangements to meet you. If you want to talk, send me an email and I'll give you my phone number. The car is stored in a garage about 30 miles north of Atlanta, GA. NADA puts the value of this car in excellent condition at $7625.00. Average value is $5225.00. This car is far above average. I've seen plenty of Fox bodied Mustangs, most are highly modified or just plain ragged. This is a very nice original car, adult owned and 100% complete just like it was built in 1987. When was the last time you saw one of those?? Thanks, and good luck! On Nov-03-10 at 20:41:50 PDT, seller added the following information: I just noticed today that I was incorrect about the tire brand... it turns out the tires aren't Bridgestones, but Kuhmo Solus. They are a matching set and have 60-70% treadlife left in them, as described. It's probably not a big deal at all, just thought I'd mention it. Also, the car does have the correct 5-lug spare along with a jack and lug wrench.
