For Sale a complete 1976 BMW 2002, in need of a restoration, but a great project car. A/C and sunroof car, which is much more desireable by collectors. Everthing appears to be correct and complete under the hood, engine is all there. Engine has not been started in 9 years, but it DOES turn over, not frozen or stuck. Told it ran fine prior to being stored by previous owner, but I can not verify. Brake fluid reservoir is missing and there is no battery. Interior is complete, but not correct as seats from a '72 have been substituted. Seats and bench rear seat in original condition, not recovered, with one split at driver's side seam only. Carpet, door panels apppear original. Sunroof had been lost and was replaced with correct panel in very good condition, with cables attached. Almost half the exterior has been stripped and sanded already, preparing for bodywork and re-paint. Car was stored outside by last owner 9 years with plastic taped over roof of car, probably because sunroof leaked. This left rust "tracks" under where the duct tape was and obviously held moisture. There is rust around front windshield, as well, which can be common but made worse again by the plastic holding moisture. This is where the majority of bodywork is. Hood and door have some filler, rest of quarters, trunklid appear solid. Rust was described as "top-down" type. Some tiny holes are apparent in trunk and floor pans, but all shock towers are very good with no visible rust. Rockers have NO rust; door bottoms very clean, chassis is good, also. Car is straight, so much to work with. Couple body guys and a BMW mechanic 25 years have seen car and says it deserves to be restored, not parted or written off. That was my intention when I started stripping paint. However, now I am moving and have no place for my project now. Last real highlight: car has 5 period correct BBS style honeycomb wheels, original BMW equipment option. Manufactured for BMW by Sommers? They need to be blasted and repainted, but I saw a similar set of four going for over $1250, so they add some nice value to the deal and would look great on the finished product! This is a NO RESERVE auction, top bidder gets it, and I hope it is another BMW aficianado who loves to work on and enjoy these cars. Good luck bidding. One last thing....even if you don't prefer an automatic, know these cars are MUCH preferred for a 320i 5-speed up-grade, better clearance for installation. And if you like a manual trans in these cars, it's the only way to go! 4 speed runs out of gear on the highway with these 3.92's, anyway. Car is advertised locally.
