Vehicle Detail
This is what I know about the car: This car is about 90% restored. I took it in as part of a trade for another car, from an antique car dealer in southeast Florida that I've dealt with and trusted for over 20 years. He said that he had gotten the car out of the west coast of Florida, from a collector who normally restores Jaguars, and it had been at his shop for a couple of months. The collector had taken the car about 90% of the way to completion before getting bored with it and moving on to another project. I had always wanted to have a GT, so I included it in the deal. But a year later, it is still two project cars down the line, and I'm tired of having it in outside storage. So it is going with NO RESERVE; if you bid you had better be prepared to pay for the car and complete the deal. See terms below. It is obvious that the engine and transmission have been out of the car, because it has been given a nice paint job (changing the color from yellow, and I think that he said this new paint is a Rover color), including the entire engine compartment and inside of the doors (see photos). The dealer also said that he thought that the collector had said that the engine had been rebuilt at the time that it was out of the car. But he didn't know if the transmission and overdrive were also rebuilt at that time. I had the car shipped to Virginia, and started it after we unloaded it. The engine sounded great (and loud, as the muffler has yet to be re-installed), and idled nicely, despite having what smelled like older fuel in the line and carbs. I didn't drive the car, partly because of the muffler, but also because the clutch had bled down, so the master probably needs a rebuild. We had the car uphill from the garage, so I can tell you that the brakes worked great (thankfully!). I haven't started the car since, and have no way of knowing anything about the condition of the transmission or the overdrive since I haven't actually driven it on the road. The car came to me with all brand new Kumho Solus 175/70R14 tires, (which run about $60 apiece) on painted wire wheels. And that is a Lucas driving lamp in the grill area, and yes it IS normal to have only one! The odometer reads over 70,000 miles, but it was delivered to me as odometer exempt, so I have no idea how many miles the car actually has on it. The title states that the odometer reading is EXEMPT, and it probably has mileage well in excess of that! It car needs a complete interior kit, as well as some of the exterior badges, a front windshield seal, and a rear windshield seal insert, as well as a clutch master cylinder rebuild kit (all readily available from Moss Motors). Beyond that, I have no idea what, if anything, that you might run into. But all in all, it really shouldn't take that long to get this car up and running, as it looks like the majority of the expensive and labor intensive work has already been done, and appears to have been done very well. It is part of what attracted me to the car in the first place last Fall. Title, Location & Inspection: The car comes with a clear Virginia title. It is located 15 miles west of Charlottesville, VA, near exit 107 on I-64. I will be happy to make an appointment for any potential buyer to make a personal inspection of the car. Purchasing Terms & Shipping: By bidding on this car, you are aware that this is a no reserve auction. DON'T BID ON THE CAR UNLESS YOU ARE READY, WILLING AND ABLE TO PAY FOR IT, AND TO PICK IT UP OR HAVE IT SHIPPED!!! A $500 NON-REFUNDABLE deposit via PayPal is required within 48 hours after the close of the auction. The balance is payable IN US CASH ONLY, no checks of any kind (even cashier's). Buyer must pay the balance and take possession of the car in within SEVEN DAYS of the close of the auction unless prior arrangements are agreed to by Seller. If Buyer does NOT take possession of the car within seven days, prorated storage costs of $150 per month may apply (I really want to clear some garage space, and not store the car any longer!!!). And you own the car prior to loading, so while I will be glad to help load it onto a reasonable trailer or dolly, I am in no way responsible for any damages once the money changes hands, and it WILL NOT be loaded prior to the final payment being made. Also, please don't ask, I WILL NOT hold paper on the car. And it does not come with any warranty whatsoever, either expressed or implied. If you have any questions about the car, please feel free to message me through Ebay. But I've included all that I know. And I'm relying mostly on what I have been told by others, so while all particulars are believed to be true, they in no way are guaranteed to be accurate. On Oct-13-10 at 07:12:50 PDT, seller added the following information: Note To Bidders With Less Than 10 Feedback Ratings: Please message me PRIOR to bidding on this car, or your bid may be removed. I want to verify that you have an existing PayPal account (I don't care if you set it up this morning, so long as you have an active one now!), and that you are a 'real' buyer and not just wasting my time as well as every other bidder's! On Oct-17-10 at 07:16:51 PDT, seller added the following information: I've had a couple of questions about the sills and rocker panels, so I closely inspected both sides. It appears that both sets of rocker panels have been replaced (really nice welding job) and at least the passenger side outer sill (you can just make out a couple of what appear to be MIG welding marks at the seam if you are looking for it, again a very nice job). The rocker panels have old glue residue from the prior interior, so I don't think that all this work was done at the same time that the car was painted.
