SquareTrade © AP6.0Meet Pete. For those of you who have been watching, Pete is being relisted because the previous buyer was not able to complete the transaction. The buyer contracted me to have the (what was then incomplete) air conditioning fully functional for an additional $500-$750. In the two months it took to find the parts and put everything together, he had a "life changing event", and asked if I would let him out of the contract. I knew he was sincere, and let him do so. I can assure you it was not a buyer's remorse or dissappointment in Pete. In fact, the buyer is quite remorseful that he was not able to take possession. Anyway, back to Pete... Pete is a 1981 VW Caddy (pickup) that is as near new (in many ways better than new) condition as I have every seen! His name came from the fellow who painstakingly and meticulously restored (and updated) him. This truck runs, drives and looks magnificent. He has no rust anywhere, has fresh paint, leather interior, and a turbo diesel. Pete gets about 50 mpg, and with a toneau cover or cap, would probably pull near 60 mpg (by the way, I have a cap, but not a cover). Here are all the details: Motor: 1984/5 VW Jetta Turbo Diesel. Since the transplant, the truck has traveled well over 30,000 miles. K & N air filter. If you have every driven a non-turbo, you'll love the difference the extra boost makes. Pete can travel very comfortably at 80+ mph on the highway, and it does not take all day to reach highway speeds (and you don't need to be going downhill with a tail wind). Pete can even pass other cars on the highway, even with a headwind and going uphill! Motor also has a block heater. With the exception of a slight oil leak at the valve cover, Pete does not leak any fluids (you'll notice oil on the driver's side undercarriage - on my way over to put him on the hoist for photos, his axle boot split and gear lube proceeded to coat the underside; that has been repaired). He has a fresh oil change with MANN oil filter. He just got a coolant flush with new temp sensor too. He is 100% road ready - drive him anywhere worry free! Body: Super clean western body! No body work to cover up any rust. He was repainted the original greenish-gray color about 3 years ago, and he is mighty handsome! He was updated with a functioning roof mounted antenna, as well as spray on bedliner. There is a minor imperfection on the front apron, as well as one very tiny ding, but other than that, he's as near perfect as you'll probably ever find! No rust in the shock towers, no rust on the floor pans. New rear bumper & wired for trailer. Aluminum cap is available, if desired. Transmission: 5 speed Manual. Clutch is great. Shifts nice and smooth. No grinding or popping out of gear. Mechanical: Everything he needed has been done. Brakes are great. E-brake functions perfectly. Air Conditioning! Stainless Steel Techtronix Exhuast from manifold back. Suspension has been upgraded to more heavy duty that OE; truck still rides nice & smooth. Electrical: Dome light not working. Glow plug light not working. Everything else works. New taillights. Updated headlights. Turn signals and wipers and blower motor all work as they should. Interior: Leather seats from a Jetta, in nearly perfect condition; all adjustments work. Headliner new, but could use a bit of glue in the corners. Dash has no cracks. Center console from a Cabriolet. VW AM/FM Cassette. Scirroco steering wheel. Clean carpet. Remote mirrors. Glass: Everything is intact. Has screw mounted opening vent windows and sliding rear window. Cranks on on door glass work smooth. Wheels//Tires: The wheels are VW Casletts forged alloy 14 x 6, matched with a nearly brand new set of 14" Michelin tires (less than 3k). The rims have some slight discoloration, but are incredibly light and unbelievably strong, and have little, if any, curb rash. Mileage: His odometer read about 110k at the time of the transplant. The motor had approximately 100k on it, and when it was transplanted, it was given a thourough inspection, and the main bearings were replaced. Since then around 30k was put on the truck, so the estimated total mileage on the truck and motor are believed to be similar, right around 140k (or 30k more than the current odometer). The dash cluster is from a gasser. His clock stopped keeping track, and rather than replacing the clock, the previous owner replaced the entire cluster. The circuitry and glow plug light were swapped so that all of the lights and gauges would work properly. Only recently did the glow plug light either burn out or fell out. I do have the original instrument cluster. He's always been a diesel. In the last 3 years, Pete has been fitted with: New Boge Shocks (including extra leaf in rear) Drive Shafts Brakes (all 4 wheels) Fuel Injectors Clutch Kit Alternator Starter Battery Timing Belt Water Pump E-Brake Cables Front Bearings New Michelin Tires Techtronics Exhaust Totaled up, that's over $2,000 in parts plus over $2,000 in labor (all work was done by a licensed mechanic)! This does not encompass the motor, stainless exhaust, wheels, new tires, leather seats, rear bumper, steering wheel, center console, sliding rear window, opening vent windows, paint, etc. To top that off, the paint job cost $3,300 (because there was no rust on the truck, this is just prep & paint) and the end result shows! Beyond that, to ensure the truck would remain rust free, it was completely undercoated professionally. All in all, there is well over $15,000 invested in the truck (probably more like $20k, but I do not have all the receipts to tally it all up)! Approximately 1 year ago the truck was professionally appraised at $11,300. Wrapping up, this is the nicest Caddy I have every seen. I am sure there are nicer ones out there, but not many. Add to that the turbo diesel, and you've got yourself one rare truck that is only escalating in value! Pete has been sipping bio-diesel since the transplant, which helps to keep his fuel body and injectors a bit cleaner than standard diesel, but he's not disagreable to the traditional stuff. He would be a good candidate for veggie oil too! Ask questions, check my feedback, and bid with confidence! He is ready for a cross country road trip, so if you are from a land far away, have no concerns about clicking the key and making it back home... Also, I have scanned the service records on the work that Pete has had. If you would like to see them, send me a message with your email and I will send them on. PS: The reserve is several thousands of dollars below the appraised value. If you choose to Buy It Now, the truck will be transported to your location (provided it is within the continental 48 states) for FREE! That's right: BIN = FREE SHIPPING! If the reserve is met without the BIN option, then you the buyer will be responsible for the cost to transport Pete to wherever it is you want him to reside. I will be glad to assist in any way I can.
