Vehicle Detail
I have for sale a nice driver quality 56 Nomad equipped with air conditioning, standard brakes and steering. The Nomad has been adorned with lots of custom solid oak trim both inside and out to give this Nomad a unique appearance. The wood trim replaces the stainless side moldings and utilizes the factory mounting holes. There are also wood accents inside on the dash, door panels, seats, flooring and headliner bows. Someone spent a considerable amount of time making these changes and of course all this can be undone with the huge aftermarket availability of replacement parts. I have checked with a local specialist and verified that they could get all the pieces needed The car looks good from 10 feet away and up close you will see wear and tear in paint and some age pitting in moldings, etc. The body is solid and rust free except for a few areas---very small surface spots about 1/8" above driver window (just needs minor sanding as it is just on surface), the lower tailgate has spots by hinges and previous repair work to lower tailgate. The right rear tailight area has a paint crack (shown in photo) indicating a previous repair in the area. I didn't find any rust spots at all underneath the car. The tailgate has the normal gap issue at the top. All glass appears original even the windshield, however the windshield has two small stars and wiper marks on both outer edges. The car has been in California since the 90's and previously came from Florida. The engine is a 1973 350 4 barrel bone stock motor with a turbo 350 behind it. The column shifter is still original so the marks do not line up with the gear you are in. The engine and trans both work okay and steering and brakes are fine. The air conditioning blows cool but (not cold) and air conditioning fan works at all speeds. The heater blower motor does not turn on. The interior is nice overall. Seat covers, door panels and carpet all show well with no tears. Rear seat bottom is stuck in down position---one side bolt needs to be freed up.There are wood panels on the rear seat pack and cargo area with carpet above that. The dash cluster needs some work as the speedo cable is disconnected. The temp gauge does not move and the gas gauge reads full all the time. The horn stopped working recently--I haven't looked into the cause. Wipers work fine. Turn signals and lights are fine. Dome light works. The lower tailgate is missing the vinyl trim panel but this should be inexpensive for an upholsterer to produce. This is one Nomad that can be enjoyed as is or taken to the level that you want to. Priced below the Condition #4 Level shown below taking into consideration replacement of the wood trim with the original trim and with plenty of room for anyone to invest money in restoration and still come out ahead! Keep in mind that there are many factors that affect value. For example, a "barn find" may on the surface look like a #4 or #5 vehicle, but it's time capsule quality means it is worth more than it's condition would usually warrant. #1 Excellent: A close to perfect original or a very well restored vehicle. Generally a body-off restoration, but a well done body-on restoration that has been fully detailed may qualify. The vehicle is stunning to look at and any flaws are trivial and not readily apparent. Everything works as new. All equipment is original, NOS, or excellent quality reproductions. (See show car description in How to Use section.) #2 Very Good: An extremely presentable vehicle showing minimal wear, or a well restored vehicle. Runs and drives smooth and tight. Needs no mechanical or cosmetic work. All areas (chassis not required) have been fully detailed. Beautiful to look at but clearly below a #1 vehicle. #3 Good: Presentable inside and out with some signs of wear. Not detailed but very clean. Body should be straight and solid with no apparent rust and absolutely no rust-through anywhere. Shiny, attractive paint but may have evidence of minor fading or checking or other imperfections. Runs and drives well. May need some minor mechanical or cosmetic work but is fully usable and enjoyable as is. #4 Fair: runs and drives OK but needs work throughout the vehicle. Body shows signs of wear or previous restoration work. Any rust should be minimal and not in any structural areas. Cosmetics, body, and mechanics all need work to some degree. #5 Poor: In need of complete restoration, but is complete and not a rust bucket beyond repair. May or may not run. Not roadworthy. I encourage you to call or text me about the car before purchasing.
