Vehicle Detail
Here is a clean original 1968 Ford F-250 Camper Special Custom Cab pickup truck with the 390 4V engine and C-6 automatic transmission. The Camper Special package included power front disc brakes, heavy duty rear springs, high output alternator and dual fuel tanks. Other options included on this truck are power steering, heater and radio. It's a two-owner, well kept truck that has been properly maintained for the past 42 years. It shows only 107,414 original miles on the odometer and the current owner (who has been a long-time vintage car collector) has had this truck since 1970. It was purchased new from McRobert's Ford in Gresham, Oregon and still has the original owners manual, etc. Included as well is the full set of original Ford truck shop and service manuals. It has remained a local west coast truck its entire life, so it has none of the typical rust issues usually seen on most vehicles of this age. It's always been stored under cover and hasn't been neglected or abused- hard to find a truck like this anymore that's been kept in such good condition since new. It's basically original and has not been modified, other than a few choice upgrades. The wheels are the larger 10" X 16.5" size and were on it when purchased by the current owner in 1970. For improved performance, a newer Holley carburetor was installed and in 2004 the original single exhaust was replaced with duals, using heavy duty 14 gauge aluminized pipe. Along with regular servicing, the valves have been reground, the power brake booster and master cylinder have been replaced, and $800 was recently spent to completely rebuild the brakes with many new parts (in 2007). The transmission was completely professionally rebuilt in 2008, and a new radiator and hoses were installed. More recently a complete engine tune-up was performed using a new coil, distributor cap, etc., including a rebuilt distributor. Also, the bench seat has been re-upholstered with NOS (new old stock) factory original fabric to exactly replicate the original look. The rest of the interior still looks fine with minimal age wear- good dash pad, arm rests, etc., and the original floor mat is still in nice shape. This truck is straight and solid, with only a couple of very minor dings. It's never been in a traffic accident and retains most of the original paint (a great-looking optional two-tone Rangoon red and Wimbledon white combo). The hood had been repainted due to a hay bale incident in the barn, and the driver side door and fender as well (due to another unfortunate incident when the truck slipped out of park with the engine running). The paint is thin on the pickup box and tailgate, with some lighter surface rust (along with one light dent on the floor, not very noticeable). About the only other issue to mention is a small blister in the paint on the RH door (along the rear edge). Overall though the condition of this truck is still very nice as it has been well cared for over the years. The operational condition is fine- it starts and runs great. There are no exhaust leaks (which are common)- it runs smooth, drives and tracks well. The Bridgestone radials still have plenty of tread left- a healthy 75%. This truck is ready to go, basically needing nothing. The modest reserve is set well below what I've seen some lesser trucks sell for recently, but we may consider selling to the highest bidder even if the reserve isn't met, so please feel free to bid regardless of the reserve. I'm listing this for a friend and will answer any emails as soon as possible. Otherwise, the current owner will be happy to answer any specific questions not addressed here- his name is Roy and he can be reached @ 503-665-3094 (or cell: 503-887-2850). We will try to be of assistance with any post sale arrangements for local pick-up or transport, but ultimately this will be the buyer's responsibility. We can offer some transport contacts if needed. Thanks for looking, Chris. On Sep-15-10 at 18:25:53 PDT, seller added the following information: ADDITIONAL NOTES: The truck originally came from the factory with a 2V carburetor, and the later Holley replacement carburetor currently on the engine is also a 2V unit (mistakenly listed above as a 4V unit). Although the interior is in very nice shape for original, there are a few minor issues not noted above. The dash pad has a small (1") crack in the front center, but it isn't seen in the photos (and not really that noticeable even when sitting in the cab). Also, the RH armrest has a typical stress crack along the top. The spare tire is an older bias ply, but still with plenty of tread left. The truck is available for personal inspection if interested- please call or email first for an appointment. At a minimum, a deposit of $500.00 will be due within three (3) days after the end of the auction (Paypal acceptable), and we would like full payment to be made within seven (7) days. This truck is located approximately 15 miles from the Portland international airport. It's been a very reliable & road worthy truck- I wouldn't hesitate to drive it anywhere. If interested from outside the local area, fly in and drive it home!On Sep-22-10 at 21:04:53 PDT, seller added the following information: One more thing I neglected mention in the description concerning the originality is the rear bumper, but it's easily seen in the photos. It's a Braden unit that was a common upgrade from the Ford bumper- it has a diamond plate surface and it's flat for easier stepping (unlike the original Ford bumper). It has a built-in hitch mount- all that's needed is a 2" ball for towing.
