Vehicle Detail
1976 Jaguar XJ6C 4.2L Inline Six, Two-Door Coupe I bought this car at the Dallas collector car auction in November 2009. I hadn't seen a two-door Jaguar XJ before finding this one at the auction. During three years of production from '75 to '77, less than 4,000 left-hand drive XJ6C Jaguars were made. I've enjoyed owning this very nice car, and it is time to pass it on to another car enthusiast. I believe this car is in excellent original condition. It appears to have been very well maintained. The interior is in immaculate condition with only a few minor scuffs and marks on the carpets and floorboard area. There are no rips or tears in the leather seats, door panels or other interior panels. There are no cracks or tears in the dash or dashpad. Either the entire interior was replaced, or it has been meticulously kept by loving owners. The only thing broken in the interior is the power-window switch for the drivers side rear window. Something in the switch popped out when I pressed the button one day. I kept the rocker button and the tiny switch parts in the glove box. The window still works, just the switch broke. The original radio has been cleanly replaced with a Kenwood head unit with a wireless remote. The odometer reads 69,434. I do not know if this is original mileage or not. Given the overall condition of the car and condition of the interior in particular, I believe this could be original mileage. The engine starts easily and runs smooth. The transmission transfers into gear perfectly and shifts flawlessly. The brakes and suspension perform excellently, and appear to be in great condition upon inspection. All of the chrome looks excellent, but there is some very minor surface pitting on the fuel tank caps (dual tanks). The bumpers, mirrors, grille and other trim are all excellent. The original chrome wheels look very good. The tires are Pirelli, and have 85%+ of the original tread. There's a full size spare and tools in the trunk. All the signals and lights work except for the instrument cluster lights (all the instruments work correctly). The car does have A/C and it appears to have been converted to the new R-134a coolant with new fittings. The compressor does engage without any obvious problems, but the temperature controls keep turning the compressor on and off. The XJ Jaguars have "self-adjusting thermostatic air conditioning" where the A/C settings are controlled by a selector knob that is meant to allow the driver to select the desired cabin temperature. I suspect this piece of British electronics might have something to do with the A/C not functioning properly. The system is complete otherwise. This is a fun and comfortable car to drive. Overall it is in excellent mechanical and cosmetic condition. I cannot find any rust on the car except for the button-sized bubble rust under the paint on the passenger-rear fender lip. This is visible in the pictures below. The car has been painted, and it appears that the back of the car is slightly darker when viewed in direct, bright sunlight. I've included a picture taken using the flash so the difference in paint shade would be visible. I try to document any flaws and honestly state all the facts so you know what you're getting and there are no surpises when you pickup or receive the car. The car is located in Dallas, TX, and is stored indoors. You can pick it up and drive it home, or I can help you arrange delivery. I'm flexible on storing it temporarily while you arrange transport/pick-up. I'm a car collector and I like to buy and sell frequently, so the money I'll lose on this car is your gain! List of XJ6C features from a Jaguar advertisement in 1975 Excerpts from Jaguar sales literature in 1975 "The XJ6C is Jaguar's attractive way of providing a luxury car for men or women who need the comfort and amenities of a saloon yet demand the more exclusive styling which only a two-door coupe can provide. This Jaguar coupe elegantly meets that requirement and enhances the many well-known attributes of Jaguar motoring - quietness, refinement, engineering sophistication and technical advancement. In its latest form, the XJ6C model features a restyled seat design in an already spacious and luxurious interior. The 4.2 litre engine offers all the advantages of performance and economy associated with the famous 'XK' six-cylinder Jaguar engine. This effortlessly smooth and quiet running Jaguar retains all the acclaimed handling characteristics, engineering and safety features which have established the Jaguar XJ6C as one of the most desirable and safest cars in its class." "Jaguars are, and always have been, strikingly individual cars. This newest coupe edition of the famous Jaguar XJ sedan series is a classic example of how Jaguar has won and maintained its enviable reputation in the very small world of luxury high-performance motorcars. As with all Jaguars, the XJ6C was conceived and designed to handle with the precision and response of a sports car. It has all-independent suspension, four-wheel power disc brakes and power-assisted rack pinion steering. The Jaguar XJ6C is powered by the famous double overhead-cam Jaguar Six, proud descendant of the engine that originally swept Jaguars to five victories at LeMans. The luxury of the coupe is uncommon in its scope and elegance. Burled walnut, topgrain leather, rich carpeting, self-adjusting thermostatic air conditioning, AM/FM radio, 8-track tape deck and stereophonic speakers are all standard equipment. There comes a time in everyone's life when anything but the best is insufficient. When that time comes for you, an uncommon luxury car is waiting."
