Vehicle Detail
This is a 1980 Volkswagen Vanagon Westfalia, full camper model. This vehicle DOES NOT RUN. There was an engine fire, and so the engine needs some work (mostly electrical) to be made operable. There is a new distributor on the block now, and a couple other new parts. When the fire occurred, I was driving the van, and enjoying it immensely, so as of last movement, the transmission and other drive-train parts were in fully functional condition. Having said that, it is the full camper, and all the camping equipment was functional also (although I did not test the fridge on propane.) I spent several nice nights in this van before the fire. Now, being honest, there are 3 reasons you will want to buy this car.1. It is a cheap way to get parts to maintain another Vanagon, especially a Westy.2. You want to convert another Vanagon to a Westy.3. You are a lover of the original air-cooled VW vehicles, and want a doable but ambitious restoration project. If these reasons don't apply to you, you probably want to skip this one. But if not, give this one some consideration. Things to know, not clearly shown in pictures. 1. There is a dent in the rear driver's side. It is not structurally a problem but if you want to restore, it will need to be fixed.2. The odometer reading is off - the odometer stopped registering mileage. If you know Vanagons, you know about this problem. The dash is partially disassembled due to my trying to repair this before giving up the restoration attempt.3. The parking brake does not catch. There is no reserve on this, so the opening bid could get it. If you purchase it, bring a trailer to get it, of course. Paypal is preferred for everyone's safety, but cash at the time of exchange is fine, too. A deposit of $50 earnest money by Paypal is asked at the close of the auction. Thanks for looking. On Sep-11-10 at 10:55:56 PDT, seller added the following information:IMPORTANT IMPORTANT IMPORTANT !!!!!!! In showing the car to a local gentleman (car is ONLY for sale on eBay, but he was close enough to come view it), I discovered I CAN NOT LOCATE the actual dash panel for this car. The wiring and switches for the panel are in place, but the panel itself and the gauges with it are missing. I deeply apologize for not checking this sooner. I was certain it was on the floor of the car where I left it, but I can not find it. I have located several important parts for the car to get the engine working, but if you intend to restore the car, it will need a panel and gauges. If any bidder wishes to withdraw or modify a bid, I will cheerfully assist you in that matter in any way I can with no repercussions to your standing on eBay. Again, please accept my apologizes for not double checking before posting. Parts I have located include a spare computer module, extra intake manifold, most of the metal fuel lines, two throttle bodies, the air-flow unit and some other small odds and ends. Thanks again for looking.
