Vehicle Detail

Well I'm finally selling my Datsun 280 project. I have had it for over a year now, and havent had any time lately to finish it. I am selling it because i just dont think i will ever get around to finishing it up as all of my time and extra money goes to my LS1 68 Firebird. The good. This is a 1978 Datsun 280z with a 2.8L I-6 engine. It has an N47 Maxima head on it with an E36 cam. The transmission is a T5 5 speed. It shifts great and clutch has plenty of life. It does use a hydraulic clutch. Here's whats new. Head gasket, intake gasket, injector hoses, fuel line, fuel filter cap, rotor, wires, plugs, radiator, heater hoses, exhaust, front brake pads, passenger side rotor, passenger side caliper, passenger side wheel bearing and plenty other things i am forgetting. The car also has a cold air intake, 2.5 exhaust with magnaflow muffler, and a high flow cat. I ran this car through DE inpsection, not a classic tag inspection. It passed emmissions (202 ppm HC limit 500 for this year), it was brake tested, lights, etc. The heater fan works, wipers work, all windows doors and locks work. It does have AC but the AC pump and condenser are not hooked up. The compressor does sping by hand freely though. I also dropped the gas tank to clean it out but there really wasnt any debris or rust in it. I did replace a couple fuel lines at the tank while i had it out. When i got this car i spent several months trying to diagnose an intermittant electrical problem. The car would randomly shut off. It would restart immediately, and sometimes it would take and hour. I replaced, the Transistor Ingition module, still did it. I replaced the Ignition Control Module Realy. This seemed to fix it for 3 months i didnt have a problem. . I had let a friend borrow it and drive it ever day for a month and a half while his car was being fixed. he had no problems. One day i went to start it and it died. Same thing. This time it happened at home where i was near all of my tools and spare parts. I tried every spare relay and ignition part i had it would not start. Finally i plugged in the spare ECU i had. It fired right up. I plugged in the old ECU, wouldnt start. Since i have installed the new ECU, I have had zero issues. The car drives great and gets about 24mpg. Has plenty of power for the little 2.8L in it. The bad. The car has had body work done to the rusted quarters and rockers. I didnt do this so i dont no know the extent of the damage. The driver side floor pan is just starting to rust through and part of the driver side frame rail. The passenger side headlight bezel is rusting through although i do have a spare so thats not an issue. the front metal valance peices are rusted and held on with bungie cords, i do have spares of them as well which will bolt on. The is a large rust spot on the cowl pannel of the car where it rusting. Where the hatch meets the roof it is rusting. Also it is missing one of the hood louvers it just have a temporary plastic one to keep water out of the engine bay. The engine has a small oil leak from the front timing cover and a small leak from the valve cover from when i adjsuted the rockers. It will need a regular cork gasket to fix the valve cover, i have RTV'd it 3 times and the leak keeps coming back. Also the rear exhaust hanger is an allen wrench tack welded to the rear crossemember which can easily be cut off, i did it temporarily and never got around to replacing it. The passenger side brake lamp bulb connector isnt making contact. this just happened. the grommet where the brake pedal switch connects fell out and left the brake lights on which heated up the bulb connector and now the bulb doesnt make contact. It's just an 1157 connector though. Also the brakes squeak when you come to a stop. It is the front disk brakes. I did not put any anti-squeal on them and they are solid rotors (no vents in between like normal rotors) which is why they are so noisy. There are alot of extra parts with this car. A spare transistor ignition module, ignition control module relay, AFM, valance pieces, tail lights, head lights, window glass, intake gasket, front main seal, oil pan gasket, valve seals, and a bunch of other stuff i cant remember. I do have a spare dash cap which may or may not be included in this auction. It's at a friends house and i dont know if i will be traveling up there any time soon to get it. Well i think i have covered everything. The car runs GREAT. I would strongly urge anyone to come see the car in person before buying and test drive it. All of the gauges work. A light bulb by the speedo is out at well as the water temp gauge bulb. The left turn signal sometimes has to be held too. It's not at all a perfect car but it is inspected and dependable, and alot of fun to drive. tires have 80% left atleast. The car isnt pretty but it does run great and is a great project for someone. I just have too many going on right now to finish it.
