Vehicle Detail

I an listing this car for a fellow Colorado Lotus club member who does not have an eBay account. I will refer any questions to him and post answers here. The description below was provided by him, but I have seen the car and can attest to its accuracy.. Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 This series one Elan is one of the earliest cars in the US and perhaps the world in left hand drive configuration. It was dispatched from the works on 14 May 1963. Body plate says “Moulded by S. Bourne (Plastics) Ltd.” .The series one cars, the lightest and most pure form of Elan, are accepted in all vintage and historic racing even FIA events. It is painted in the classic JPS Bllack and Gold colors. This car has been modified for autocross (autotest in the UK) with fiberglass wheel flares that can be reglassed into the original configuration or left as is as a period modification. Car runs and drives OK, but has sat for at least 4 or 5 years and though it has been driven in the neighborhood without problem, it should be thoroughly gone through before it is taken on a long trip. The head on the engine has the rounded casting bosses in the spark plug valley consistent with an early production date. Engine holds 20PSI of gauge oil pressure when warm at a 1000 RPM idle and about 50PSI at 2500 RPM. Engine looks like it has been rebuilt at some time fairly recently and then sat. There is some grey smoke when the car is started after sitting for a few months, but as soon as it is warm the smoke disappears. The car starts easily when choked. Most of the lights work, but the wiring will require attention before I would trust it on an evening top down cruise. The top and the interior are in pretty good shape. No tears or fastener issues with the top itself and the supports are all there. The windows in the top need to be cleaned in order to get rid of a little opacity, but the view through them is still fairly clear. The paint is shiny and looks great from 5’, but there are stress cracks and body imperfections under the paint. You can still see the outline of the mount for the two reflectors in the rear valance panel. Windshield and side windows do not appear to have any cracks, the seat and door panel upholstery is in good shape, the dash is OK, the dash pad is wavy, but no cracks. I have the original “1600” badge that goes on the back of the car, I just took it off to make sure it did not get lost because it was loose. Modifications include: 3 point roll bar old RJS 3” competition lap belts, 2 piece epsilon wheels secured to the hubs with long studs, electric fuel pump and fuel cell, tubular header, Allison Electronic Ignition, Remote engine oil cooler and filter, Master power switch in the trunk Cibie Oscar driving lights, Braided steel brake lines and fuel lines, Electric radiator cooling fan It is licensed and registered in Colorado and has a current valid Colorado Title. Shipping: The buyer is responsible for vehicle pickup or shipping. The seller will assist in coordinating and make the car available at reasonable times to a shipper of the buyers choosing at no charge. All shipping costs and duty/licenses/taxes are the responsibility of buyer
