1970 HUSQVARNA 400 CROSS VINTAGE AHRMA POWERFUL Frame – MH-4233 Engine – 402844 This very powerful bike runs and sounds fantastic. Bike has a whole lot of compression with the new top end installed. As with all the other Huskys and other bikes we, Mayer Brothers have had the pleasure and privilege to work on, we spent a lot of time and not just a few pennies bringing this classic and beautiful machine back to life. As always it is a pleasure to work on these terrific, well made vintage machines! We have listed all 24 pictures here as well as a video of the bike running. OK, here is the nitty gritty on this Husqvarna 400 Cross! As stated above, there is a new top end so it takes a very healthy kick and a tickle from the carb to fire; definitely not for the wimpy. As with all new top ends, the bike will need to be ridden easily at first in order to properly brake in the top end. As is our standard, we tore this Husky down to the bare frame and built it back up. The frame was media blasted and repainted and is still in very nice shape! The fork tubes show no signs of rust or pits. Bike has a nice set of rear Girling shocks with new springs and very good dampening. Both drive sprockets are like new. There is a nice trap door throttle and a lighting coil in the magneto that is wired in and tapped off should the owner decide to run a headlight for baja racing, etc. All you will have to do is connect it up! Bike has the 1970 pipe that clamps to the exhaust flange instead of using springs to hold it on and the pipe is still in very nice shape. We left on the original foot pegs. As well as the nice Akront rims already on the bike. We installed many new parts on this machine in addition to the new top end which includes; piston, rings, pin, bearing, clips and we had a fresh bore done as well at 83mm – see pics. Of course we put in all new engine gaskets and seals including crank seals. Bike has new front and rear tubes and Dunlop tires. Bike also has all new gray cables, front, rear and inner fenders. Number plates and ignition points are new as well. The ignition is very strong! Other new parts include the grips, Flat Blade levers, kill switch, chain, fork seals (oil of course is new too!), air filter, cover and rubber seal, kick pedal lever and front brake shoes. The seat (pan and foam in very nice condition) was professionally recovered following the same pattern as the factory Husky stitching! It is really quite amazing and nice. We had a very nice tank freshly painted with all the decals and patches cleared over for longevity. The patches and pin stripes were done by a professional painter/artist. The patches were done to match the original and each other. Bike only has about 15 minutes of test time on it, so the winner will still need to drive it on the easy side at first in order to brake in that new top end (yup we are repeating, but in this case it is worth it!). This is truly one very nice 40-year-old machine that would make a perfect addition to your collection. It is basically race ready as well, but is almost too nice to race! As with so many Husky fans, we grew up with these bikes and get a great kick out being able to bring them back to life! We remember seeing this particular model in the famous Malcolm Smith and Steve McQueen movie – “On any Sunday”. Great times, great memories for so many of us!
