Vehicle Detail

This truck falls into the category of "rare" the Dodge official records state that there were 82(yes, eighty two) W500 trucks made in 1957, although this truck's VIN number shows that it is number 89. There are only a hand full of 1957 W500's left in the world! Normally the thought of restoring something that is this rare would be a scary thing but please keep in mind that it shares all of its body components with other 1957 dodge trucks and the running gear was carried over into the mid 60's on the later W500 power wagons. Complete and very solid truck originally from north Idaho. The body is really nice, back of the cab looks flawless as well as the fenders, hood and grill sheet metal. there is a typical hole in the roof where an antenna of some sort was once mounted. The cab has the rare optional large wrap around rear window with good glass. dash is complete, windshield is nice, door glass will need to be replaced(flat so easy job for your local glass shop). the drivers door is rough, the latch area has been welded a few times. I imagine it has been opened and shut a zillion times on a working mans truck like this! The door hinges on both sides are excellent. no cancer, the passenger side front cab mount will need welding as the metal is cracked and a small chuck of flat metal cracked off. there is no bed of any kind, I was told this truck was originally used on a cattle farm and that it had a wood slat box/bed. I have clean and clear Washington title in my name along with a photocopy of the previous Idaho title as I was going to research its history a bit further. I have some sales literature, service and part manuals that will go with the truck. The engine and transmission are from a 1970's dodge truck, np435 behind a 360ci v8, I had the engine running but the transmission is stuck between gears and will not shift. I planned to upgrade to something else more modern but it would be just as easy to replace this transmission with another good(and cheap) np435 or source an original era 315/4sp setup. I have the front and rear drive lines out so it rolls easily. If you have any questions feel free to email me and I will respond promptly and can provide a phone number if you wish!
