Vehicle Detail

Here is a very original '66 BMW R50/2. Overall in very good condition, with a bit of TLC this bike will once again own the road. The widow of the man who owned this bike since the late '60s - possibly the original owner - decided after a number of years that it was time the bike was sold. She asked that I find it a good home so I have listed it here in hopes of finding someone who will give it the attention it deserves. I have put about 30 miles on the bike, the most it has seen in the last 5-7 years. I haven't done much more than wash it, but with a bit of elbow grease it should clean up nicely. Engine, frame, and title numbers all match. The bike starts in the first few kicks and runs out well. It goes down the road straight and true. The brakes could definitely use adjustment, which may just be a result of sitting for so many years. The headlamp, taillamp, brake light and horn all work, as does the turn signal circuit, but the bike needs a new battery. It also needs a few rubber bits including carburetor and air tube bushings, foot peg rubbers, etc. The steering column and side glove box locks are in place and have not been tampered with, but there are no keys You may get lucky and find an original tool kit inside, but I can't guarantee that. There is no tire pump. The bike looks to have mostly original paint, with a few signs of touchup on the frame and tail lamp housing. There are numerous nicks and scratches throughout, which I have tried to feature in the photos. There are no dents or any signs the bike has been down. The original red coating is still inside the tank. The chrome on the steel rims is decent, the chrome on the tall US handlebars is pitted, and the mufflers are starting to corrode at the seams. The tires are older, they hold air and the bike handles well. One of the coolest features of this bike is the original Wixom Ranger fairing combo (model 101 upper, model 202 lower) and bags. Kind of makes it look like the Batcycle. The upper and lower fairings are in very good condition, with only a few scuffs and no cracks. The bags have some abrasions and a few small repaired cracks. The latches work well and the locks are there, but no keys. Overall this is a very good candidate for a full restoration, or give it a good once over and detail it out to ride it as-is. The bike can be picked up from my home in Cudahy, WI - a few minutes east of General Mitchell International Airport. Additionally, I can offer the following options: I can deliver the bike within 50 miles for $75 to your doorstep. I can drop the bike off at the depot of Haul Bikes dot com I am happy to accomodate domestic and international buyers. In any case, shipping is the full responsibility of the winning bidder. The bike must be paid for prior to it leaving my possession. Please ask any/all questions regarding shipping before bidding. Please ask any questions before bidding.
