Photo Pages: Panoramic View Exterior Interior Fins Top Views Trunk Detailed Photos Glass & Chrome Closeups Engine Model Ready Up for auction is a 1958 Cadillac Coupe DeVille. I bought this car four years ago, but now have too many projects, not enough time, and have lost my storage space. This beautiful car embodies all of the wonderful traits and excesses of the late-50’s automotive styling… size, fins and color. This 2-door DeVille is Alamo Beige with tan interior. The VIN is 58J113925. This car had been with its 2nd owner for over 30 years. In ‘96 they did a good amateur restoration. At that time it was repainted. The original color is Alamo Beige – the color looks to me like it has been pinked-up a bit. The rear bumper and tail light assemblies were re-chromed, along with the side trim chrome and front light bezels. The upholstery was redone in fabric as close to original that could be found, leather was replaced with matching vinyl. Extra attention was paid to its replacement and seaming so it looks just like the original. New carpet and interior to include seats, dash, door and kick panels. There are no cracks in any windows. Information given to me by the previous owner: This car was originally owned by Bill Monroe of the bluegrass music family. The odometer reading of just under 64,700 is believed to be the true mileage. ‘96 mechanical repairs included new pistons, new valves and heads, new water pump, new fuel pump, new voltage regulator, re-build generator, new wheel cylinders, new master brake cylinder, new wheel bearings and u-joints, gas tank removed steam-cleaned and lined, new exhaust, new power antenna, rebuild on transmission and new wide white walled tires. It also has a new carburetor that has never been adjusted. Less than 1,500 miles have been put on the car since this renovation in ’96. Factory options include tinted power windows, power seat, air conditioning (blows warm, but clutch appears to be free/not frozen) and autotronic eye. Car comes with two sets of “wheelcovers” (hubcaps); the best set still having lots of color with bright red centers. Engine has an oil leak on the left side, which I think is due to the dip-stick sheath that is broken off at the base. When the engine is running, it drips oil onto the exhaust pipe causing it to smoke. I have driven the car less than 100 miles since acquiring it and have used it only as a “model car” – see photos. The car was painted in ‘96 but it has always been garaged and the paint is bright and shiny. As I said before, less than 1,500 miles have been put on the car since repairs were done in 1996. That being said, the car has also been sitting for most of that time. It does run and drive – but runs rough. In the four years that I have had the car I have started it every couple of months and have used it only as a model car and I am not mechanically inclined. This is not a perfect car or a show-car, but it is certainly impressive. This is not a fast car off the line but is an exceptional highway cruiser. Floats down the freeway like you are driving your living room. This car is a real head-turner. Its size, style and color demand attention – folks literally cannot keep their eyes off this gorgeous road-rocket. I have taken many pictures of the car which are included in this listing. These pictures here are an assortment from 5 different occasions. You can see from the photos that the color of the car seems to change depending on the light and time of day (even though it is not a metallic paint.) I have tried to post photos that show the truest color of the car. I have tried to display the condition of the car correctly by including lots of pix. Observations: The power antenna goes up and down with ease. Radio has power but has no sound. Prior owner said that he had rebuilt the radio- it appears to not be hooked up to the speakers, I don’t know. The blinkers seem to work properly. The autotronic eye does change headlights from low to high beam and back to low… although I don’t know if that is happening properly. All four power windows function properly and go up and down. Power seat does have power, but I haven’t moved it much. Heater seems to work properly. The spring-action drip guards above the front windows work properly and open and close with the doors. The hidden gas tank assembly (left tail light assembly) opens and closes properly and snaps into position when it is closed. However, it will not stay in the up position by itself. There is a spring on it, that I think is supposed to hold it up… but it isn’t attached properly I guess. There is a photo of this part of the car in the listing. The steering wheel only has one little crack in it, on the front side. All the steering wheels I have seen on these older cars are all cracked up – this one looks great. There is a hole in the headliner behind the driver’s visor. There is a tear in the rear seat arm rest that is visible only when the arm rest is down. There is a hole in the front passengers seat at the bottom of the backrest. This is visible only when the backrest is pushed forward. These items are visible in the pictures. The new chrome on the rear bumper is thinning on the top in the center. Also, there is some bubbling on the top of the rear tail-light assembly chrome. The chrome on the rear fin edges is pitted. There are some rust spots on the underside of the front bumper – I have tried to show these items in the photos. There is a spare tire in the trunk, but it doesn’t have a wheel with it. Some of the jack parts are there, but I don’t think the jack is complete. There are spare parts that are included with the car to include: 1) a new horn ring that is in better shape than the one that is presently on the car… 2) new bezels for the front blinker lights… 3) an envelope with parts in it that says something about extra transmission seals… 4) an extra piece of front-upper bumper… 5) a copper tube that I think is a replacement dip-stick sheath. These extra parts are all shown in the photos in the listing. This car is beautiful and shows very well. My hope is that there is someone out there who has an interest in this beautiful 58 Cad and has the know-how to work out the details and would enjoy spending time working on and enjoying this wonderful vehicle.
