1966 Ford Mustang Fastback Original Red on Red Car with Full GT appearance package Only 50k Original Miles! 289 4bbl, Automatic that's ready to cruise or show Over 105 pictures and 2 videos follow the detailed description below. Call Doug at 913-461-4890 or 816-734-2396 to arrange a purchase or for more information. Detailed Description: This is a beautiful low mileage Mustang fastback outfitted with the complete GT appearance package. If you're looking for an excellent all-around Pony that can be shown or driven just as it sits, this car will fit the bill nicely. This is a two-family-owned car prior to me, and it was all original when I bought it, down to the skinny whitewalls and hubcaps. It still wears its original quarter panels (although they were repaired prior to me owning it), and even the rear trunk passthrough is still uncut and intact. This car has had a lot of detail and attention given to it recently, and while it's certainly not perfect, it will be one of the nicest quality driver fastbacks you will encounter. Look over nearly 100 pictures and 2 videos below and you will see what I mean. Exterior: The paint is a smooth, lustrous base/clear done in the original Candyapple Red, and it holds a deep shine that is absolutely gorgeous. The rear quarters are original, but had metal welded in to them at some point in the car's life. Body panels are extremely straight and line up well. We replaced the hood as the original had a few dings in it and it was going to be too much work to prep the underside for the kind of finish you see on it now. The car was properly altered for the GT appearance package, including removing the lower trim, bright trim on the quarter coves, proper striping, and correct Mustang lettering, GT badges, GT gas cap, foglights, dual exit rear valance, and correct trumpet exhaust tips. We also added a sturdy bolt-on Shelby scoop. Chrome bumpers and stainless trim are in excellent condition. Both the front and rear glass are original Car-Lite pieces--another testament to the car's low mileage. Wheels are beautiful "Hot Wheels" 16" chrome 5-spoke wheels, with brand new Ventus high performance tires (less than 100 miles on them). We elected to leave off the Lemans stripes as we felt the car stood very tall as is. Interior: The interior is a nice mix of original pieces and new materials. The dash and pad appear all original and are in very nice shape, with no rips, broken knobs, etc. There is a Mustang aftermarket radio in the dash, and it does work. All of the gauges and dash lights work, too, as does the heat and defroster functions. The horn, turn signals, courtesy lights, and wipers all work as they should as well. The foglights are not just for show--they are properly hooked up and work great. We removed the carpet to replace it and discovered the front floors needed replacing, so we did that and the results were beautiful (see pics below). In addition to new carpet for the floor, new door panels were installed, as were new sill plates and a hump hugger console. The upholstery had been recently redone prior to us getting the car and is in excellent condition with no rips, tears, or unusual wear. The headliner and sunvisors are white, and were also in good shape when we got the car. The windows roll up and down easily and fit properly. There are also seat belts for all 4 seating positions. Overall, the interior is beautiful and needs nothing. Drivetrain: We were told by the second owner the engine, trans, and rear end were all original to the car, and we had no reason to doubt this given the condition of the car when we bought it. We converted it to a 4bbl with a new Edelbrock aluminum intake and Edelbrock 550cfm carb. We purposely chose this carb so as not to "overcarb" the engine given it's relatively small size, and it works beautifully. The choke works and kicks down properly once warm, and gives excellent response when you blip the throttle. It starts easy and idles smooth. We also added a set of headers for a bit more performance and better sound. The original 3 speed C-4 shifts smooth and easy with no leaks or known issues. The original rear end was removed, checked, blasted, and painted before being reinstalled. This is a very healthy running driveline with no major leaks or mechanical issues. The engine compartment shock towers are in excellent, rust-free condition and have not been welded on. Considerable detail was given to the engine compartment, with fresh paint given to both the engine and compartment. Show chrome valve covers (not the cheap $20 ebay specials) and a heavy Cobra style air cleaner were added. We also reinforced the front end with a chrome monte carlo bar and chrome export braces and shock mounts. And as you can see, the underside of the hood was painted and polished to a very high degree to give the engine compartment the best look possible. Trunk: The trunk metal is all original and in very good shape. We scraped it down thoroughly, resealed all the seams, and primed and painted it in correct candyapple red. We also installed a new gas tank and filler neck, with new hoses. A new trunk mat was also installed. The trunk passthrough works exactly as it should and has not been cut or altered for speakers, etc. Chassis: The front end of the car was in good overall condition, so there was no need to rebuild it. Front and rear frame rails are solid. We elected to replace the rear springs and hardware with springs with slightly more arch to accomodate the larger wheels. We also removed and expertly refinished the rear end, and cleaned and repainted the rear drums. New shocks and rubber bumper stops were put in, too. All new brake lines and fuel lines were also installed as a safety precaution. Finally, the underside was scraped and smoothed before receiving all new oxide primer (and undercoating in the wheel wells.) As a finishing touch, brand new mandrel bent 2.25" exhaust was run from front to back, and the car is fitted with excellent sounding Flowmaster 40-series mufflers that are painted stainless steel. Special attention was given to ensure the trumpet exhaust tips were fitted perfectly. Video: Here are 2 videos which provide additional support for what the pictures and description say. Flaws: We realize no car is perfect, no matter how much has been done or how much has been spent on these old cars. Also, this car was not restored with exact correctness in mind, but rather was designed to be an attractive, fun car that could be driven and enjoyed extensively. As with any car of this vintage, there are a few minor paint flaws here and there. For instance, there is a small chip the size of a pencil lead tip on the right rear end cap, and some small flaws near the 289 emblem on the driver's side, but none are significant nor take anything away from the car when looking at it. However, the overall quality and condition of the car is excellent, which is why so many close up pics are included below. The interior has a few very minor flaws, but nothing requiring attention. I suppose one could replace things like the arm rests and door handles if wanting to spiff up the car a bit more. In the end, there should be nothing in the way of flaws that should keep you from purchasing this car, unless you are wanting an MCA judged type of vehicle, and I doubt anyone looking seriously at this car would be thinking along those lines. This is a beautiful, well-done driver that will bring years of "oohs and ahhs" from everyone who sets eyes on it. Summary: Look over the many large, high resolution pics below, and I think you'll have a good idea of the condition of this car. We welcome anyone with serious interest to inspect the vehicle in person. With only 50,000 original miles, you're getting a very solid Mustang fastback that has not had to be brought back from the dust of death as so many have. This is a true red-on-red car that is ready to be driven and enjoyed now. Best of luck bidding. The "T" and "25" on the VIN plate indicate this is an original red on red car, not a color change. Interior is beautiful and features new upholstery, carpet, door panels, and console. Original matching # 289 V8 is detailed and features show chrome valve covers. Unique "Hot Wheels" 16" chrome wheels and new high peformance tires round out this fastback's fun factor. Auction ends Wed. BIDDING INFORMATION (READ THIS): Please do not ask what the reserve is--this is an auction. The title is free and clear and ready to be signed over. We love very nice muscle cars, but please, no trades for shipwrecked boats, dune buggies, or piles of parts. As the car is advertised elsewhere, I reserve the right to end the auction early for any reason whatsoever. If you have no feedback, I will cancel your bid automatically before auction's end if you don't contact me to get clearance to bid--no exceptions! This shouldn't be a problem for most of you, but I must ascertain if you are a serious bidder or not, as I don't want to list the car again. If you have more than 3% negative feedback, your bid will be automatically deleted unless you contact me immediately. I have attempted to identify all the flaws I know of, but please realize you are buying a 40 year old car, and so you should not expect it to be exactly like 40 day old car! I STRONGLY ENCOURAGE you to see the car in person or have it inspected by an independent service if you have any questions or concerns. Please satisfy yourself on the condition of the car before placing your bid! Neither I nor the car have anything to hide, but we cannot possibly know everything that might be of concern to you. We'll be happy to accommodate your request to view the car in person. We want you to be happy with your purchase! This car is sold "as is, where is" with all sales being final. Bidding on this auction constitutes acceptance of these terms in their entirety. Unlike most dealers, I do not charge hundreds in bogus “administration” fees in order to grab a few more dollars off the top. HOWEVER, due to advertising and marketing price increases, I am now forced to charge every buyer a modest $139 marketing fee to cover these increasing charges. If you require paperwork or other items shipped overnight, you will pay for those shipping expenses as well. You'll also have to pay for any extra parts that are too big to fit into the car. But you will never see me charge “dealer prep”, "documentation," “detailing”, “titling” "normal postage" "fuel surcharges" or other bogus fees. You are bidding to buy this car, not to have the right to take a look at it! Your bid is a legal binding contract, and feedback will be left on the winning bidder, good or bad, depending on your actions. I simply do not tolerate game-players, and will enact all remedies available to me, including legal ones. This is not a game for me, so please treat our transaction accordingly.
