Vehicle Detail

1948 Chevrolet Cab Over Engine (COE) 5 window Loadmaster. This vehicle was purchased in 2005 for $1,000 with the intent of fully restoring it to stock condition. It is nearly complete as shown in the pictures. However, this would make a good candidate for the rat rodder looking for a solid COE to rod. When purchased it did run; however it has not been started in over 5 years. It is doubtful if it runs or if the brakes are functional and the gas smells BAD. It is unknown if it has the stock 216 engine (babbit bearing) or if it is a modern 235 (insert bearing). Visual indications are that it is stock. Note from the pictures that an extra grill is included in this auction to fix the damaged grill. It is a single rear axle with duals, no two speed in the axle that I can tell. It is a manual transmission. I'm selling it as other projects have taken a higher priority. The good news: good candidate for stock restoration or rat-rod, nearly complete, 5 window, stainless bright metal is present, cab corners appear intact but I did not poke at them (they could be thin), and the sheet metal is in good condition (no large dents). The bad news: slight rust through in door jam, grill macked (but replacement included), slight dent in passenger fender, rear of cab has been rubbed by loads and is dented, tires are totally shot but all 6 rims (lock ring type) are included, and rear pinion bearing shot. Other things may be wrong - a vehicle inspection has NOT been performed. Note that given the age of the vehicle, actual mileage is unknown. Clear South Dakota title in my name. The VIN on the title matches the tag in the drivers door jam. It is unknown if it matches the engine number. This is a 62 year old unrestored vehicle that has been stored outside for 58 years, and under a tarp cover for the last 4. Given the age and condition, this vehicle needs a TOTAL workover to make it road worthy. There are areas of possible rust not shown in the photographs. Don't expect anything less. It is possible to view the vehicle if you are a serious buyer and email me with your request. NO TROLLS. No screwing around. Payment by Cash ONLY due within 14 days of close of auction. Pickup ONLY, no arrangements made for shipping of any kind. Pickup by appointment only. Pickup must be within 21 days close of auction, but payment is still due within 14 days. Note the vehicle is in eastern South Dakota about an hours drive north of Sioux Falls, SD. Posted August 16, 2010, 9:35 pm CST. Clarifications to questions received: Yes, there are LOTS of bare wires as most of the wiring is stock and the cloth has fallen off. All sales are final. No warrantees of any sort, express or implied. No buy-it-now. Posted August 17, 2010: More answers to questions below, more pictures added.
