Vehicle Detail
1999 Honda CBR1100XX Blackbird in Great Condition Own an open class, GT sportbike that was once the fastest production bike in the world! 49.960 miles (mostly highway) Up for auction is this very elegant and fast motorcycle. One with the sort of character you would expect James Bond to ride. It is not a motorcycle for the beginner or for those who frequently attempt to take lesser bikes to their limits. Although relatively easy to ride, this bike can have you in over your head in a hurry! I purchased this new on 5/16/2000 after having Aurora Honda search the nation for one still in the box (they found this one in California). I previously owned the 1997 CBR 1100XX and traded it in on a 1999 Hayabusa. Unfortunately, the ‘Busa failed to live up to the hype and was a lot less polished than the XX. I sold the 'Busa and acquired this Blackbird. The 1999 is superior to the ’97 and remains the finest motorcycle I have owned (which includes legendary bikes such as the ZX-11 and 312R). So why am I selling? I’m moving overseas and I can’t take any of my bikes with me. This awesome bike has been used as a twice weekly commuter (Colorado Springs to Denver) during the warmer months. Garaged year round and mostly maintained by me. I had Michelin Pilot Road 2 tires mounted in June and they only have 300 miles on them). Never been on a track, the Autobahn or been drag raced. Mature owner (50) with many years of experience with bikes of this sort. Glossly black original paint (the front fender has been repainted). Slims down the tank and adds a distinctive look to the machine. Lockhart Phillips Speedscreen in Dark Smoke (I also have the stock windshield). Although the thicker stock windshield is what you would use for the track or Autobahn, this gives a more aggressive look to the bike. I had the same model on my '97 and it withstood a sustained speed of 130 MPH. The 1999 model was not marketed as a sport tourer and this windshield does it justice. Carbon fiber license frame (Genuine carbon fiber) What is needed in maintenance: The last oil change was September 2009. Recommend another prior to storage for the winter. I have an OEM oil filter that I will include with the sale. Monitor front brake pads for wear. The right set drags a very small amount (I had the shop install the wheels in June when I purchased the tires and they may have skewed the pads a little). The bike makes a vibration noise at 3200 to 3500 RPM. This started last fall and I suspect the counterbalancer needs adjustment (Rocky Mountain Cycle Plaza in Colorado Springs said it was a $150 service) or the clutch fluid going bad. The clutch fluid definitely needs replacing (a darker color in the sight glass). The painted nylon handle for the passenger has some scratches on it. The front wheel fender has a few chips from rocks (I have repainted the fender once, but rocks are a problem in Colorado). The tank has three minor dents on top, the front fairing has a triangular piece of plastic broken off (I have the piece and it can be restored with black PVC pipe cement, which I will provide) and the right side fairing at the bottom has a few scratches. This is from a motorcycle being parked closely next to mine and falling over in high winds. The owner uprighted my bike and drove off. Good luck bidding on this singularly superlative example of the ultimate sportbike! Chain replaced at 40,000: DID X-ring 530; Based on past performance, there should be at least 10,000 miles left on the chain And the obvious: Sold as is
