Vehicle Detail
HISTORY of this 1960 Chevrolet Corvette This beautiful 1960 Corvette has been in my family since the fall of 1988. Purchased by my father from a family friend for $8,000. It was sold at that time because the owner ran out of funds after driveline restoration, which included complete engine and transmission overhaul. Shortly thereafter, complete body restoration was continued and completed in the spring of 1989. (see attached photos). The paint job was done by Fitzpatrick Auto Body of Dorchester, MA, 12 coats of original white paint and 12 coats of clear coat. During this time both my father and I worked at local Ford Dealerships. My dad was the service director at Fore River Motors in Quincy, MA (‘88-‘98) and Jannell Ford of Hanover, MA (‘98-‘08). Resulting in a very well maintained 1960 Corvette, tune-ups were done almost seasonally and highly trained and skillful technicians completed all repairs immediately. This vehicle was always stored in a garage. Never driven in the rain and never left uncovered when not in use. The corvette was driven mostly on weekends during the spring, summer and fall, starting in spring of 1989 thru 2008. Mostly to local car shows and family cookouts. I would estimate that we drove it approximately 400-500 miles per year and it was driven a little less each year until 2008. True mileage is unknown, since 1990 I would estimate 12,500 total miles. It has always been a driving vehicle since the day of purchase. After total restoration it won “best of show” and “runner-up” several times. The first 10 years (1990-2000), the driveline set-up was with 283 small block engine, dual-quad 4-bbl carborators and the original 4-speed manual transmission. During that time only my dad and myself drove the vehicle. In the spring of 2000, my father decided to make the corvette an easier vehicle to drive, so my mom and sister could drive. (I tried numerous times to convince him not to change the set-up, but oh well.) We changed the engines intake and carborator set-up from the dual quads to single quad. And purchased a “Powerglide” 2-speed automatic transmission. Resulting in an everyday driver type of corvette for the whole family to enjoy. The extra parts list for the 1960 Corvette is a little extensive. Most importantly is the Hurst “short throw” shifter assembly, original 4-speed manual transmission along with all parts for clutch assembly, disc, pressure plate and flywheel. Also the dual-quad carborator assemblies, intake manifold, linkage and air filter assemblies. (see photos, some gaskets included) The original “Wonder Bar” radio is included. Not sure if it works, probably needs to be restored, but is fully intact. There is no antenna mounted on the rear quarter deck. At the time of restoration my dad decided not to drill a hole for the antenna and mount. The current radio is a simple Sony am/fm cassette and is operable. No holes or any type of modifications where made to the dash. The original “Wonder Bar” radio will mount correctly into dash. We have recently tuned the vehicle, flushed all fluids and rebuilt the carborator. I have been driving it daily for the last two weeks and is running better each time I take it for a ride.
