Vehicle Detail
2002 VW Golf TDI (Diesel) Car was used daily 7 days a week and has been kept clean and well cared for - Never in a collision and there is no rust...I have all of the receipts for all of the repairs...!! There are some issues that do need to be addressed and I do not want to hide them as they are going to cost some money to repair. 1. The Turbo is in fine shape but the ECU that controls it is not...it needs to be replaced...my dealer tells me it is $1200.00...most of the time the car performs as it should but on any given day the ECU may decide not to work properly and this results in the turbo "not kicking in" when you would like it to. 2. The AC does not work because the clutch has broken on the front of the unit...the compressor is ok but they tell me that I might as well replace the compressor while they are in there because the cost differential is only $150.00...950.00 to repair...1100.00 to replace with new...I see from some online searches that you can get a whole new replacement kit for 395.00 but then I would imagine that you would be doing the labor yourself vs. the above dealer price quoted to me. 3. The Sunroof itself is fine however the switch that controls it (once again...!) is not...they tell me that is 185.00...I never used it ha ha...one day I came out and it was opening & closing by itself and the dealer tells me that this has been a problem on some of the Golf Hatch Backs. 4. The brakes are due to be replaced very soon...!! 5. Front tires are new the back tires probably have 5-6000 miles left on them...? They are all Michelins as is the spare. 6. The oil gets changed per the dealers recommendation every 5-6000 which has been done since the day I bought it new...It was just done 2 weeks ago so you are ok there. 7. They tell me the transmission never has to be serviced...I disagree with that and I have had it serviced...650.00 for that...ouch...but it has been done...I also replace the power steering pump fluid on a regular basis. 8. I had replaced the lead acid plate style battery twice and it was ready to go again...I got tired of this and replaced it with a RED TOP gell battery...these are wonderful as the lead acid plate style deteriorates from the engine vibration from diesel engines...since I have put this in it is wonderful...850 CC amps and nooooooooooo problems anymore. 9. I have added (as you will see in the engine pics [the white bag]) an external plug that I can hook up to my trickle charger...I am in the canvas fabrication business...over the winter I sometimes need my garage to do projects in for weeks at a time...I like to keep my trickle charger hooked up to the battery when the car is sitting outside for extended periods of time not being used. 10. I have had the timing belt, water pump and the 2 hydraulic tensioners replaced at 90 some thousand miles...I guess at 180,000 they recommend doing it again so you have time there. 11. The spare is a full size spare and has never been used so it is still new...! 12. The rest of the details you can see in the pics...the usual chips & dead bugs, etc on a car that is 8 years old...all lights, stereo, other options work fine, cruise, keyless entry auto key, power windows, door locks, rear defogger, heated mirrors, etc...back seats were hardley ever used as they were folded down 95% of the time...I have floor mats on top of their floor mats. 13. The glow plug assembly was replaced by the dealer and went bad again...I had it replaced with a higher quality assembly from an after-market manufacturer and it is beautiful - no problems what so ever...I have been told by a reputable service shop (Long Hill Auto Repair in Millington, NJ) that VW has had problems with the glowplug assemblies...he has replaced all of them with the model that he put in my car and they have been problem free. 14. Last but not least I have a custom seat cover made for the back seat for your Yellow, Chocolate or Black Labby if you happen to have one...! I will only accept a cashier's check as I do not deal with paypal...I have had too many problems with them...you will have to make arrangements to pick up the car...I live in Bridgewater,NJ...there are no guarantees with the car and I am selling as is...mileage in town is 38-43...out on the highway it is 51-53....I have had a few occasions if I keep it around 60-62 where I have gotten in excess of 56 but that is not too often as I generally drive 65-70 on the highway...the reason I am selling the car is that I am buying a new Ford Trans Connect Van as my canvas business is growing and I need the money that I would otherwise use for the repairs above for the down payment on the new vehicle...It is still a good vehicle for someone who is well versed in repairs or for someone who wants a reliable second hand vehicle to bop around in...the motor runs fine and is a relatively quiet ride inside for a diesel.
