Vehicle Detail
This 1980 International Scout is a real Head Turner! It is in very good condition and has been restored and ready for the show. It was originaly sold in 1980 for $12,938.50 You can see this vehicle on youtube just click on this link http://www.youtube.com/user/RoyMcLaws The drive train is in good working condition with the fluids in the engine, transmission, transfer case, and differential replaced recently. It has new tires, shocks, and radiator. The Nissan diesel is a great motor and will last a long time. The transmission shifts well and so does the transfer case. The hubs lock in and out freely too. As it is a 30 year old vehicle, the pwr steering and the transfer case are wet on the bottom, but i would not hesitate to send it across the country. Infact it is in such great condition that I would think it has the odometer stated miles of 36343 miles on it, however I have record of the clutch being replaced in 2008 and I wouldnt think that to go bad in 36,000 miles. So it may have an additional 100,000 miles on it, I cannot prove it either way. The factory hoses were not replaced til 2009 and all the seats are original except the top section of the back seat and the drivers seat. The steering is nice and tight and the suspension is good too. I have the original paperwork and owners manuals including the line setting ticket, service manuals bouth for the vehicle and also for the Nissan Diesel engine. I recently aquired the vehicle from a friend who was restoring the vehicle and then took a job transfer out of state and announced that the Scout wouldnt be part of the move. I happen to know the Scout very well as I own the Body Shop that it was painted in. I personaly have spent many hours sanding, cleaning, buffing and polishing this vehicle to a high gloss show car quality. I was shocked to find out he couldnt take it with him as I knew of all the things that he did to it also like; New body/frame bushings and cab mounts, floor panels, new rubbers for the doors, hatch and hard top. He even had the 5 poly cast wheels reconditioned and added a roll bar for saftey along with shoulder belts for the front seats. and to add he had a bed liner professionaly sprayed on the entire floor and cargo area for protection and sound deadning, however I added a new black rubber mat over it in the front, you can easily pull it out if you are driving it a lot but for the show the mat looks a little better I think. The radio works 1/2 the time which is great for an original radio in the un cut dash. The headliner was replaced also but I dont think it looks that great. He also had a new windshield put in it. It also has a new battery and air filter and fuel filter and extra ones in a box for you. The primer pump is stuck shut and bypassed with a fuel pump and works great although its not original. The air conditioning works well, its been updated to the R-134 and is needed in the black Scout. To start it you push the glow plug button until the light goes out then crank it with 1/2 throttle and it starts, however in the winter time or when its cold it works better to push the glow plug button about 3 times to get them warm for starting, when its cold it does smoke on startup as is standard with the diesel. I do not have the door key so you will need to have the locks re keyed if you want the doors to lock. All the decals and stickers are bran new and look awesome as an original look, although they can be pulled off if you just want it black. There is a small tear in the back of the passenger seat about the size of a nickel. The Tread Wright tires are just a little bigger than the original ones so as a result the spare tire dosent quite fit in the original carrier in the cargo area, although there is a set of 5 nice poly cast wheels. The top of the roof has not been finished nicely with a high gloss buffed paint as its so high that you cannot see the roof by standing on the ground, This vehicle also looks great with the top off. I have answers to your questions concerning the vehicle, you can contact me by email mclawsr@rushmore.com I also have a bunch of photos on file if you cannot see enuph of the 100 photos available to you. This Scout is a high quality vehicle and I have tried to represent it to you the best I can, I really believe that if you could see, touch and feel it, you would be well impressed. It will sell at some point to a well deserving person, good luck. It is priced to sell the same as it was 30 years ago when it was new and is well worth it. I will lend a hand in assisting you in transportation if nessassary. However I will be at the National Scout Jamboree in Virginia until Aug 6th, I should be reachable by email at that time. If you are bidding on this vehicle you should see all the photos, as they represent the vehicle well. All you need to do is sign up and click on this link Facebook
