Vehicle Detail
(The original description for this car was cut off before item #4 below. The full description is here.) Well-cared-for 1983 Porsche 944 with 1987 motor The engine was replaced in 1991: Serial number 43H-10398 ("H" being the designation for 1987 motors). Car had 87K miles at the time of the swap (68K miles ago). The motor had 26K on it when it went in (came from a rear-end wreck); thus, the motor now has 94K total miles. As should be expected from a well-maintained 944.2 motor, all cylinders have perfect 135 psi compression. (Compression check done July 9, 2010 at Advanced Import in San Jose, CA). I've owned the car for the past 10 1/2 years, and have used it only as a weekend car. (A Honda Civic is my commuter). Recent service New clutch, timing belt, tires and alignment, and A/C recharge (A/C blows cold). Right strut also replaced last week. The car also comes with a spare DME relay (a must-have for any 944 owner). Other service completed The A/C compressor and all pumps and other belts have been replaced at various point over past 60K or so miles (timing belt in the last 3000), as has the distributor and all the wires. Additional details Turbo body kit; 17" 993 wheels; Momo hardwood and leather steering wheel with Porsche horn cap; Alpine stereo with Kenwood KAC-526 power amp.Tires have LOTS of life left (see pic). The car has been garaged its entire life, has always been stored in dry climates, and has literally only been driven a few thousand miles in the past seven years (when I bought my 993). It drives very well and turns like it’s on rails. It has manual steering which very much helps you to feel the road in turns. It regularly passes California emissions with flying colors: At 2500 rpm it usually gets HC PPM readings of 13 out of 150 (37 being average) and CO % readings of 0.00 out of 1.50 (.20 being average). I’ve put a lot of money into this car only to see it sit in my garage while I drive my 993. I’m now moving somewhere with less garage space, so rather than park it outside I’m letting it go. Minor problems None of these affects the drivability, performance, comfort or handling of the car. 1. The car has a dash cover (to hide the standard dash cracks); the side view mirror controller works for the driver side only. The passenger mirror needs to be moved by hand until fixed. 2. The parking brake works, but the thumb button (which “ratchets” the brake in place) is missing. Until this part is replaced, the parking brake can be engaged by simply propping it in the up position. A replacement (a whole new lever and button) costs about $25 and takes an hour or two to install; I just haven't had time to do it. 3. The car has speakers in the rear only; I never got around to installing door speakers. 4. The trim around the doors is generally in good shape, but with breaks at the top corners of the doors (see pics). 5. There are tiny chips on the paint here and there; it's standard highway stuff and not apparent unless you look very closely. The paint is otherwise is in excellent shape, with zero fade anywhere. I've been obsessive/compulsive about never leaving the car out in the sun for more than a few hours at a time. The pictures speak for the exterior condition of the car, but it will not win you a car show. The car nevertheless turns heads. 6. There's a crack in the clear cover of the passenger-side fog light. The light works. 7. I have the headlight bezel for the passenger side of the car, though I have not installed it. I haven't had time to locate the right nuts/bolts. The lights work fine without it. It will come with the car. 8. Finally, when the back seat was replaced, the small metal u-bar that the back seat grabs onto went missing. The seat folds up and down, but it will need this part to “click” into place. Very cheap and simple fix. Carfax report Finally, a Carfax report is available. The report is clean except that it shows an inconsistent odometer reading from the year 2000. The mechanic entered 42,927 miles instead of 142,927, so Carfax flagged it as a "rollback" (after 99,999 miles 944 odometers roll over to 0 - in case anyone is unaware of that). There's a screenshot of the report in the pictures section. Higher-quality photos can be seen here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/52174139@N08/ Just click the little magnifying glass above each photo. The other gauges light up and work fine.On Jul-18-10 at 08:07:24 PDT, seller added the following information:This car is owned by a non-smoker, and it was bought from a non-smoker.
