Vehicle Detail
It's finally time for me to part with my 300CD. I'm getting married and planning a family and the coupe just doesn't fit in to my future plans. I've had this car for the last 9 years and 60,000 miles or so and it has been a great car. I love the car and really don't want to sell it but I just can't keep everything. Mechanically, I'd put it up against any other 300CD out there. It has always been serviced on schedule, had oil/filter changes every 2500 miles (I have several OE oil filters that go with the car), valves adjusted every 15,000 miles, brakes, coolant and transmission flushed every other year and all maintenance taken care of immediately. I have the majority of the service records, including those showing replacement of the ACC unit in 1998 and the entire a/c system in 2000 (R134) at 91,000 miles at a cost of $3337.94. The car runs and drives great. In March of this year I had the alignment done, a couple tie rod ends and the upper ball joints replaced as the dealer said they were just starting to get a bit worn. The lower ball joints were done in 2004. The front tires are about 6 months old with hardly any wear, and the rears still have plenty of tread. I'd guess the rears are about 1/3 worn. All tires are Michelin, including the spare. The original jack and tool kit (with nothing missing) are still there. The battery is about 3 years old. The engine starts immediately after one glow cycle no matter how cold the weather is. It uses no oil or any other fluid. It does have a working block heater but I don't ever use it. It gets about 28 MPG around town and shifts nice and smoothly. You can drive this car anywhere. I recently drove it to Syracuse, NY and back with no issues whatsoever. Cosmetically this car is in pretty good shape, but it does have the normal 123 ailments that all of us who love these cars deal with, such as dash cracks, non-working clock, peeling clearcoat, and evidence of rust here and there (including in front of the windshield passenger side where a small strip has rusted through), jumpy fuel gauge, faded palomino interior, and probably some others I can't think of right now. No water enters the vehicle in the rain, even in the spot where it's rusted through it goes into the cowl and through the drain hole with the water coming off of the hood. The floors are in excellent condition under the carpets. The MB Tex is in pretty good shape, with a piece missing from the drivers seat bolster from simple wear. There is some type of issue with either the ACC unit or the vacuum to it or the fan or all three. The air system works about 90% of the time and the a/c blows cold. I'm not sure what is going on when it doesn't work but the fan simply doesn't blow. It does the same thing whether it's heat or a/c. Turning it on and off usually makes it start working but definitely keep this in mind while bidding as it will need to be addressed. For the purposes of this auction, in would rather all of you assume that the ACC system doesn't work at all vs. get upset with me during the times that it doesn't. All windows work, including the quarter windows but their forward tracks need to be adjusted so they require a little help with their horizontal alignment. All glass is original with the exception of the drivers door glass. It was broken out by a vandal downtown but replaced with an original unit (Sekurit with the star) from a salvage 300CD. The windshield is original, a bit 'sand blasted' from the years, cloudy in the corners like all of them and has a couple repairs from stone chips. Everything on this car is original. A lot of sellers of these cars on eBay do body work, repaint, etc.. These vehicles are only original once. The few places that have rust look exactly the same as they did when I bought the car. It has never had any body work done or been repainted. Every part ever used in the maintenance of this car is OE Mercedes-Benz. This car is almost 30 years old. It will never be a show car. The rest of the clearcoat will probably come off. It has a few minor issues - but it will take you anywhere you want to go reliably and for quite a few more miles. This is a relatively low mileage 123 and as you know not even to half of the miles these engines are known for. Please look closely at the pictures and ask me any questions you like. I have nothing to hide about the car and am very straightforward. Do not expect this 30 year old car to be in any condition not shown in the pictures. Make no assumptions - ask questions. I would rather report back on any concerns vs. you think something is different than it is and I can't possibly think of everything for the purposes of this description. If you want to fly here to pick it up I'd be happy to pick you up at the airport. I don't believe in reserve auctions and I don't cancel auctions a day out when the bidding doesn't get where I think it should (i.e. "sell it locally"). Bidders with Zero feedback or new users email or I will cancel your bids as soon as I see them. Sorry, but that activity looks like (and often is) a shill and will not be part of my auction. This auction will run its course and the car will belong to the high bidder when it ends. Thanks!
