Vehicle Detail

Up for bid is my 1965 VW Microbus 21 window. It has been converted to a 12 volt system. Please look at the pictures carefully as they may answer your questions before you ask them. This is a clean bus little or no rust anywhere. I have taken 126 pictures and if there is an area you would like to see better I can email pictures. Let me say this up front , the bus is great, everything works- clock is unplugged to save it and I have a spare clock. The radio has power to it and the antenna is hooked up. I have the original speaker bracket and speaker (the speaker is 45 years old and in need of replacement). The fuel gage is working and even the light works in it . I put ambulance fans in the over head and they work ,two speeds. Note-- as you look through the pictures-- that the correct seats are there with the panels and bars. All the armrests(3), grab handles(2) and cigarette ashtrays(3) are there. Note the milage on the speedometer 3742 that is the total miles on the engine rebuild. The engine is a 1600 dual port with a 009 double springed distributor(makes the engine preform better excelling and decelerating). The carburator is german and has been drilled, bushed and rebuilt(note the correct oil bath air cleaner correctly installed). I have a spare carb that goes with the bus. The gas tank has been cleaned and sealed inside and painted outside. The cables for the clutch and emergency brake are new. The correct jail bars and luggage bar are present. The fold down middle seat with the three bars is correct for this year bus(the blue side panel is one I found and have not changed the color of). The underside of the bus is as good as the top. The steering box is rebuilt and the idealer arm is new so steering is positive( I have the old steering box so it can be rebuilt when necessary). The paint job is over 10 years old and it looks good, it should be repainted(age checking a little) but does not need to be done right away. The paint job was done inside and out and has saved this bus from rust even in the hard to save areas like the battery(note in the picture the battery is setting on a battery pad). The body is straight and has not been damaged. When I was doing the inside of the bus I took out all the panels and found a small zipper (six inches)just behind the drivers side seat ( a dent pulled out by drilling holes and pulling out ). I decided not to fix it until it showed. I have never driven the bus in the rain and 10 years has gone by and it still does not show at all. I had a shorting tail light and pulled the wires off to check them. After finding three splices I had the wiring bundle for the whole bus replaced and all the lighting problems when away. The heater channels are in place and would work if the bus could put out heat but we don't need no stinking heat in Texas any way. I had a remote concealed kill switch installed and had wiring for a powered amp in the back under the seat set up. I bought a mounting bracket for a modern radio to be installed under the front tray but never installed it. I have a spare dash tray it goes with the bus also. All the lights work and the wipers work(correct nobs on the dash switches and spares) and I have a replacement wiper motor that goes with the bus. I have all the manuals for the bus and the three inch thick parts book also. This book has paided for it self two or three times over by keeping me from buying the wrong part for the bus. You are at a show and you ask will this fit a 65 bus and the answer is always the same sure it will. Check your book and you will get the true story. These books go with the bus. I have the gray bag for the bus also, it goes with the bus. I have many spare parts --wiper blades, fuses, lights, bolts, nuts, screws, tuneup kits, fan belts, mirrors, mirror arms, spare glass for the top and the bottom windows, a manifold and carb(Bocar), lens covers, switches, rubber replacement parts, the old steering wheel and horn button, a middle seat out of a 1967 bus, two sets of mud flaps and hardware, all goes with the bus. The winner of the auction has to put a deposit down and pay within 7 days, (need more time, call we can work it out) . I will let the winner come and check out the bus and if for any reason the winner is not pleased with the bus and all the parts that go with it, I will refund your deposit, call it a no sale and we go our separate ways. I am so sure the winner will love this bus. I keep the engine tuned and it will hold 75 no problem but it is to fast to be driving a 45 year old low tech bus. 55 to 60 is nice but with the windows open and road noise that is why I did not install the modern radio and amp. It would be nice for the shows but you have to carry a spare battery or get good at pushing it to get started. I drive the bus once or twice a week to keep it from breaking in the garage so this is not a trailer queen, it could be, but that is not as much fun. The winner could drive this bus anywhere to get it home, it is ready to go (even the window washer works). I will help you load it up on your truck or trailer. I can help if you want it shipped. I will not sell my bus to someone who is going to cut it up, mod it, put a v-8 in it, make a dune buggy out of it, or the like. I have been around VWs for well lets just say my first one was a 1962 bug and I have rebuilt bugs and busses. I have been on Samba.com for years and know all the scams so don't waste my time. You want to buy it now and end the auction, call me and we will talk. Nevin 817 488 2151 home 817 371 9925 Bus is in the Dallas/Ft Worth area if you want to come by and look at it call or email habuten@verizon.net. So there you have it a nice bus to go to the shows in. You can turn it into a 65,000 show trailer queen(there is maddness in the details) or just drive it to club meetings and local cars shows and enjoy the kids looking it over-- its a head turner. Many have never seen one before and they are getting smaller in numbers every day. Coming up on ebay soon is the rest of my show stuff --hazet tools, hazet tool boxes, vw wheel gas tank, 1974 superbug, Pepzi cooler, bug manuals, and many parts. Winner of the bus gets first choice of the rest of the show stuff. Good Luck with your bidding. *************************** Please read the questions and my answers to them. The questions remind me of things I should have put in the writeup of the bus. All the locks have been rekeyed so one key does everything. The windows are clear, correct and have the VW logo on them. The handle for the sunroof is the correct Golde(thanks Tim). I have taken more pictures of the bottom of the bus to show the excellent original panels straight seams and the blue paint. I washed the bottom and I wish I could eat an In and Out burger and fries on them. There is a correct jack for the bus included--this is a very important part of a bus. It keeps you from trying to jack the bus with the wrong type of jack and doing damage to the panels or seams. This has not been done to this bus . I can email the pictures if you like. A big thing on buses is the area around the windows and the gutters. There is no rust anywhere in these areas. I have pictures if you like. Price I set it at $30,000 and will sell it at that price if there is only one bidder. I know that all the watchers are going to wait until the last 30 seconds and then make their bids. If you call me and offer $30,000 guess what I will turn you down because I know the bus is worth more than that. The auction will play out to that end. Thats not to say that I will not end the auction early if you offer the right price. Bidders must understand that waiting to bid until the last minute may mean that they will loose the chance to win the bus if I end the auction early. Here is the thing-- no matter what you pay for this bus it will never lose its value. Don't wreck it or put bad paint on it and you can keep it for as long as you like and then sell it for what you have in it. This is not a new car that will loose 10,000 value the minute you drive it off the dealers lot. Put correct new paint on it, carpet it, put a sound system in it, up grade the motor to a 1776cc dual carb just don't cut on it or change the basic original bus and it will only increase in value. Example-- I put ambulance fans in it- now I can bring outside air for cooling into the bus even sitting at a stop sign-improvement. I did not cut or remove anything and I kept the original cover so it could be replaced if a future buyer wanted to replace it. One last thing for the numbers matching guys out there yes they do but remember these buses originally came with a 1493cc(1500) engine and were single port. Under powered and over heating problems so not many of these engines still around. The 1600 double port engine puts out about 50 horses, closer to 55 if you keep it tuned and timed right. I keep a German carb on it all also. It just so happens that my 74 superbug has this exact same engine in it. Life is good-- One set of numbers to remember, all parts can interchange and one set of tricks works one both. Thats why I have a 1600 in the bus and not a bigger 1776 or whatever. These bigger engines also can get into heat buildup problems. The 009 distributer needs to have two springs in it. That is one of the tricks I was referring to. They used to come that way but somewhere down the road they stopped putting two in. With two springs in the excell and deceleration are more controlled and cuts down on heat build up. Remember my offer --no fault bidding --You win it, you come and do not like it --fine I will refund your deposit and call it a no sale. I will relist it. I want the buyer of this bus to be happy with it from day one.
