Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is my 1954 Deluxe cab F-100 still sporting the original six cylinder motor and Fordomatic transmission. Hopefully, my pictures present an accurate description of the truck's overall condition...The features of the deluxe cab for 1954 included dual sun visors, door and kick panels, and some extra chrome, including roof trim...All the Chrome is there and in good shape...The engine cranks, the oil is clean, but I've never had it running in the few years I've had it....I believe the truck has been sitting for a total of about eight years... The glass and rubber trim all need to be replaced, as does the driver's floor panel (see pics)...Battery and transmission cover as well as steering column cover and passenger floor are good...Overall the body seems to have very little rust or damage other than what's shown in the pics...The wiring is original, so it is in pretty poor shape, but all there.... I had the original radio repaired and bench-tested by a ham radio guy and it works fine...I also have the roof mounted speaker cover....The turn signals were dealer add-ons---a cool feature, I think...The heater is all there, and the knobs seem to work the doors ok; it has the cigar lighter; never tried the wipers...It didn't have rear-view mirrors on the doors but does have the widshield mounted one... The tires are fairly new Goodyear blackwalls, and one day when I had nothing better to do I painted the whitewalls on with elastomeric roof paint and the rims dark green to make it look like I was making progress on the truck...I redid the bed with new metal bedstrips and 3/4" plywood that I cut and routered to look like the original planks... The amazing thing to me about this truck is how unaltered it is---the only deviation I noticed is the previous owner put 4 screw holes in the firewall cover to mount a voltage reducer so he could install a cheesy cassette stereo in the glovebox (truck is still 6-volt)...And of course, he painted the darn thing red and left the inside meadow green....All of the steering and suspension components are original and the carburater and glass-topped fuel filter and oil-bath air cleaner are all intact...The seat operates fine---I took it out to reupholster it and decided it was harder than it looked...I made some new door panels, but I doubt if anybody besides me would like them... My minimum bid is my reserve, so if you bid, plan on buying if you win...If you think I'm overpriced, don't bid and save us both a little trouble...I would love to restore this vehicle---a great example of a clean slate to work with---but I've come to the realization that with all of my other life interests, I'll be about 116 years old when I finish it at the pace I'm going...Feel free to ask any questions, or you can call me @ 602-332-3385, but bear in mind, I'm on Mountain Standard time...Thanks for looking and I hope this truck finds a good home....Well, come to think of it, as long as I get my money, I don't really care what kind of home it ends up in----it's not like it's a dog or a cat or something... On May-31-10 at 09:31:09 PDT, seller added the following information:Because inquiring minds want to know:...The only rust on this truck is on the driver's floorpan and a tiny bit where the "metal fatigue" took place where the running boards bolt through the fenders...The roof rails, lower doors, window openings and cab corners are fie...I have more pics but can't seem to figure out how to add them to my listing....The radiator and mount is intact and appears in excellent condition as do the front fender aprons...
