Vehicle Detail
Here is your chance to own a vehicle that you don’t see everyday. Up for auction is a restored and drivable 1952 Ford F-8 “Big Job” Conventional Cab 5th Wheel Truck Tractor. This vehicle is owned by the AACA (Antique Automobile Club of America) Museum in Hershey, Pennsylvania, a non-profit Museum dedicated to the preservation and interpretation of transportation history. It was donated several years ago and has been exhibited as part of our collection. With a little bit of attention this truck would ready for display at shows or even as a work vehicle. It is offered for sale to highest bidder, with a reasonable opening bid and no reserve. All proceeds benefit the Museum. The truck is not for sale outside of eBay and the auction will not be ended early. We received this vehicle as a donation about 7 years ago. It has spent time on display in the Museum and also been kept in a secure garage when not on exhibition. It has been well cared for by both the Museum and its previous owner, which clearly shows in its overall condition. The odometer currently reads 9 miles. We do not know the true mileage on the truck. The gauge was likely replaced at the time of restoration. The data plate inside the glove box reads as follows: F8K2HM15866 (Serial Number) 22000 (Max GVE Lbs) 147 (WB) 141 (Certified Net HP at 3500 RPM) 5DIR (Trans) 6-5-8.86 (rear axle) 14BNF-25 (Production Code) The truck starts easily and runs well around the Museum complex. The air brakes work. The bias-ply tires are a bit flat-spotted from sitting but should even out when driven regularly. Our mechanics indicated that the carburetor would benefit from a rebuild and that the engine is not original. The truck should have had a flat-head V8. Instead it is equipped with what appears to be a late 1950s overhead valve 332 CID Ford V8. It also appears that when the engine was installed, the gauges were not hooked up. They are all present in the dash but the wiring/sending units were not coordinated and connected. The truck is equipped with a manual transmission and two-speed rear. The saddle tanks are for appearance only and are not connected to the fuel system. The functional tank is behind the seat. Physically, the truck is in excellent condition. The maroon paint is of a high quality with no glaring defects. It has no visible rust or evidence of repair. The exterior trim is also good, either polished or repainted or replated. The restoration work on the truck was done with the body off and the underbody and frame are all detailed. The interior is just as nice. The vinyl seat, armrests and headliner are very nice. The painted dash and doors are also in good condition. The tires are like new and the wheels and caps are finished nicely. All in all, this is a nice example of an uncommon 1950s Ford truck. This vehicle is offered as is, where is, with no warranty expressed or implied. It has a valid Pennsylvania title which will be transferred to the new owner upon successful completion of the transaction. Shipping and transportation of the Ford will be the responsibility of the new owner. We will gladly work with you or the shipper/transporter of your choice to coordinate the move. The new owner will have two weeks from the completion of the auction to pick up the vehicle unless other arrangements are made in advance. The truck is located at the AACA Museum, 161 Museum Drive, Hershey, PA 17033. Payment may be in the form of cash, money order, cashier’s check or PayPal (with all fees paid by the purchaser).
